Confused Hurry up and Wait...should be the SSA Motto!

It was hard enough to wait over 2 years for a fully favorable decision...now I have to wait for my award letter and wait for my money and wait to see how much I am even going to get...which probably will be nowhere near what I deserve! UGH! I am very thankful and blessed to have finally won my case...but incredibly frustrated it takes so long to get it all together. I have spent more time "googling" about how soon or how long it took others to get theirs and how much. But for some reason, nobody wants to say how much they got (and their names are anonymous) and most won't tell how long it took because once they receive their backpay, they never come back. UGH! So if you are reading this and you have already gotten your backpay, please tell how long it took and how the pay was figured. Thanks so much!

*edit* A lot of people say how much they recieve *edit* 2nd there are a few ways to "calculate" your benifits, there is even a calculator a a representatives website. *edit*. Some do leave after backpay but Im glad to see the ones that stick around.

How much anyone else received has absolutely nothing to do with how much you will get. The amount you receive is based on your work record (if any) and your onset date as determined by Social Security. And backpay can take anywhere from a couple days to many months. A lot depends on the worker(s) handling your case and if you have submitted everything on your end.

Waiting for your letter and your backpay is part of the process. You just have to deal with it!

It took me 3 years! But my onset date was much sooner than that. Anyway, I was a federal retiree so there were other things that factored in. I had to deal with OPM for about 8 months. SSA on the other hand was just great! Anyway, just saying...it isn't unusual to have long wait times. And again, my situation was a tad different.

Default OK...so I guess some people totally took my post wrong.

I wasn't trying to be mean or inconsiderate etc. But unfortunately it is very hard to show infliction when typing. I was just expressing my frustration with SSA and I am simply curious what others get and when. I know exactly how it works, my lawyer and my googling has given me that info. I know mine won't be the exact same as anyone else. I was just wondering. You know...looking for something to entertain me while I wait the wait. Geez. I am sorry you all took me wrong. I even tried to put a group hug. Oh well...and I know that some people are still around after backpay. It just seems that I can find posts all day long that say "I was just approved, does anyone know how long it will take to get my backpay?" But it doesn't seem they ever come back to say when they finally got it (and I didn't mean EVERYBODY). I was looking for reassurance, hope and information. Not mean replies. I know not to ask anymore questions. Good luck to you all!

You TOTALLY took my question/comment wrong. You don't have to be so mean. And I don't consider googling to be a skill. I was venting about SSA, not people on here, and I was simply curious about what others got as a way to entertain my brain while I wait. Geez.

Lightbulb

I did some editing as per our posting guidelines.

Hoping this thread can remain on topic related to the issue and not become negative toward each other.

It depends on several factors:
1 - if you elected direct deposit - within 30 days. It will be your responsibility to check your account every day as you will not get an acknowledgement from SS that the $$ has been deposited until several weeks/months later.

2 - how backlogged your state is - several months if you elected snail mail paper check. Some states are more backlogged than others. Your attorney can give you an idea of the backlog. Ask your attorney.

NOTE: Not sure if all SS direct deposit is now mandatory in ALL states now.

But for some reason, nobody wants to say how much they got
The reason is personal & privacy. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS THE WRONG WAY----> It's nobody's business.
To give you some idea of the "different" amounts, please read: How Much In Social Security Disability Benefits Can You Get?

From beginning to end it took me 3 1/2 years to receive back pay.
Three weeks after my ALJ hearing, I received my back pay (direct deposit).
Two months after my ALJ hearing, I received my very thick "SSDI package."

60-90 days after a final favorable decision is a reasonable amount of time for SSA to get the work done.
