I had posted a recent question on here about exactly which month my son, who will turn 18 on 7/5, will receive his last check. I had to go into my local SSA office about another matter, so I decided to ask there.
Big mistake ! A 10 minute arguement ensued with the SSA lady INSISTING that my son's SSDI payments end when he graduates high school. Kept repeating that over and over, then added.....or "would have" IF I had filled out the required paperwork, which she reprimanded me for not filling out. The paperwork is documentation that a child is still in high school if they turn 18 before they graduate.....which is NOT an issue with my son. The rule is payments continue until a child turns 18 unless they are still in secondary school. His 18th birthday is the month AFTER graduation, so 'extending payments' until graduation is a moot point. She argued with me because "high school students turn 18 before they graduate" Umm.....not those with summer birthdays (unless their parents held them back) I know my brain is foggy, but I know my kid's birthday and how old he is !
