It can be difficult to try to interpret "tone" when reading on the internet. Sometimes, it's easy to take offense when none was meant or stated. I don't think you got a lecture, simply a comment trying to clarify your initial statement for future SSDI/SSI applicants. It is important for them to know that a senator or congressman may be able to get the SSA to speed up looking into your claim (and for some that opens up the whole can of worms that that slows down the process even more for others), but that a senator or congressman cannot (legally) influence the outcome of the decision, which your initial statement could be interpreted to mean.

I'm thrilled for you that you got your approval, Debi ! It's such a relief for each of us to know that the issue is settled for us so that we can spend less time worrying and more time trying to figure out how to live with our disabilities. It's a wonderful thing that you didn't have the stress of worrying about it for years, don't feel guilty about that ! You are allowed to feel relieved and happy that the issue is behind you.

Wow Debi, I'd say congratulations, but that sounds as if you've won something
and this is something you deserve.
Please pray or hope for me that I get mine as well. I would have never imagined myself in this position a year ago but now I know what's it's like to actually
need it!
I went to an atty. after the 1st denial because I thought that was the next step. Now I'm still in the "request for reconsideration" phase. I filed 1st time in late May '13 (denied) then filed thru atty. in early Oct. "13.

I still have some guilt going on in accepting the SSDI.....I know I deserve it...I've worked and had SS paid in since I was 15....I'm now 51. I know I'm unable to work 8 hours a day/40 hours a week.

I'm 9 months in to severe small fiber neuropathy, hands, feet, upper right arm....and I know the journey to get some daily quality of life back is a very long road.

It took me 8 1/2 months.....1st claim was denied in July 2013.....entered reconsideration end of Sept 2013 and was just approved.

From reading posts on here I know how VERY lucky I am to have gotten this in 8 1/2 months. I did not expect an approval and was already looking at ss lawyers I would need to file for the next phase.....which is a hearing before a judge (in GA).

I won't be leaving this forum.......such great people with so much knowledge and ones who need support from all of us.

Just wanted to share the good news and to tell you all to keep fighting !

Default I understand the guilt feelings..Congrats on your successful appeal!

I was forced by my disability insurance to file for Social Security..I was 34 at the time, and hated the notion that I may never work again...I am the man of the house, male pride thing...But I do know I did not ask for this, I did not do this to myself, and I paid into it since I was 16...

I'm sure you were like me and never gave disability a thought until it hit you in the face. It just never, ever occurred to me that I would one day have to draw it. I loved working and miss it very much.

Thanks for your post
