I recently injured my back at work and had an MRI. Results are in and they have me worried. #1 complex disc herniation L3-4. This includes a broad based midline component at this level contributing to moderate central canal stenosis. A superimposed broad-based inferiorly directed component on the right impinges the decending right L4 nerve root in the lateral recess. #2 Posterior midline annular fissures and shallow broad-based midline protrusion at L4-5 and L5-S1. There is substantial impingement of the thecal sac or decending nerve roots at these levels (in this neutral supine position ). Distal lumbar facet arthrosis.
My fear is that it has been 3 weeks since the injury and my pain level has not declined. The workers compensation doctor has not been in any type of hurry to refer me to a specialist. Should I be worried about the results? The pain is still in my back, however the pain in my leg is becoming unbearable. Any advice would be appreciated! |

Do you have a Dr of your choice on your side?
Do you have a good work comp atty on your side? A good atty will know of Drs and know how to get you treatment..even if WC is stalling..it's what they do... One problem with work comp injuries, you have to be able to prove the injury caused the pain. I think you need a good comp atty because the stenosis & arthrosis might have been there before. If you had any previous back injuries or treatment , the WC ins will blame most of the new issues on that.. Also if middle aged or molder they will blame that too. Just the way the 'game " is played.. unless you happen to get a very truly helpful case worker/adjuster..but they get pressured to help the WC company soon enough.. We have a work comp forum for more details on how that goes..
