Recently Diagnosed with a B12 defficiency. My doctor has a policy, no more that 2 symptoms at a time. This makes it extremely difficult when 1 problem could be causing all of my symptoms. I've now been taking the B supplement for 3 weeks and I haven't really noticed a change. In fact, some symptoms are worse some days.
I experience pain in my neck. Sometimes I experience a numbing sensation between my shoulder blades and when I pull my shoulders down and my neck back I hear fluid popping and such. When I'm at a computer lets say, every 10 minutes or so I have to pop it out or it will start to get umcomfortable and go numb. Also, my neck is getting a curve to it, what is up with that? I deal with some form of pain in my spine daily. I try to make it a habit to try to pop my back as much as I can each night. Other symptoms: Vertigo Vision problems (blurred and lovely black dot in my right eye appears once in awhile) Headaches (most headaches seem to have been reduced by eliminating sugar, however I get kind of a stress headache that feels like its up the back of my head) Ringing in the ears Neck pain Tingling in my arms/hands (I can have both arms resting on an arm of a chair and one will just decide to go to sleep?!?!?! what is goin on?) Fatigue Numbness across my upper back Joints pop out (seems at night my wrists and shoulders pull out of joint a bit and are sore during the day) Brain fog (I'll literally lose what I'm saying mid sentence cause I can't think of the word, could be a word as simple as dog) Guess I'd like to know a little more so I can explain to the doctor the right symptoms to get this taken care of. Maybe this is all due to the B12 def and I haven't left enought time for my body to heal? What other things could this be that I can investigate? Thanks Nathan |

Hi Nathan, I have alot of the problems that you are listing. I find it strange that your doc will only deal with 2 symptoms at a time. Maybe you need a new doc to look at everything at once.
I just wanted to say that I was B12 deficient too. I started taking methylcobalimin type of B12. If you read the vitamin board and also the PN board there are many posts about B12. Rose is the resident expert in my opinion of course and if you post on the vitamin board she will probably answer your questions for you. Hope that helps...Sue also forgot to ask, did you get a MRI yet? The numbness across the shoulders is one of the symptoms I get from syringomyelia that I have. Along with alot of the other stuff. If you have had an MRI did it say anything about a syrinx?

Nate make sure doc checks you for autoimmune problems especially thryoid...make sure they do the TSH test as well as thryoid antibodies. also get your iron and ferritin checked. And if the doc wont do the tests for you you can goto privatemdlabs online. I have often used them when a doc has told me no.
Gte the sublingual B12 tablets, they are the best absorbed. But you want to make sure you are taking b12 with folate too. Also you might want to look into a gluten free diet. I institiuted it for a while and still follow and it has helped m neuro problems. Good luck! P.S. and get a new doctor they sound like a jerk. Hope someone tells him when he is not feeling well sorry but you can only have 2 symptoms. Fire him and report him. |

Snoozie, what symptoms do you have that are similar to what I have and what are your other problems?
I am taking the Methyl B12 but not with folic. Here in Canada I don't really know how much flexibility there is to just go to another doctor. I have a family doc. As far as getting him fired for only accepting 2 symptoms would be next to impossible. This way the doc makes more money by gettin patients in and out as quick as possible, quick turnover = more money. Our lovely health care system. I did get an MRI done but because I can only go in for two things the MRI was from persistant headaches and of course they found nothing. Funny, when I first complained about 8 years ago they told me to go home and take an advil. I was diagnose with IBS years ago so there has been a malabsorbtion problem. I decided 4 years ago to go gluten free and that eliviated a ton of other symptoms and really made a difference in the tightness that I felt across my shoulders. It was so bad I was in total discomfort every day and was getting people to step on my back to get the the knots out. |
