nik,
thanks for posting this... I was just thinking about posting something for my dad...but...you did it so well...thank you! I loved Donna Reed when I used to watch it on Nick At Night When I was in college... there was a scene where Jeff had to do a show and Carl Betz(I just love that guy) missed it because he was helping someone else out... anyways, he sang to his dad and I have not been able to locate that son (it's been close to 20 years since I've been trying to find it.) Thank goodness to youtube... It just brought tears to my eyes when I found it yesterday... to your dad, to my dad, to all that lost their dads... Click here for "My Dad" from the Donna Reed Show The lyrics: My Dad Lyrics musician: Paul Petersen He isn't much in the eyes of the world He'll never make history No, he isn't much in the eyes of the world But he is the world to me My dad, now here is a man To me he is everything strong No, he can't do wrong, my dad My dad, now he understands When I bring him troubles to share Oh, he's always there, my dad When I was small I felt ten feet tall When I walked by his side And everyone would say "That's his son" And my heart would burst with pride My dad, oh I love him so And I only hope that some day My own son will say "My dad now here is a man"

and then...
there is Dan Folgelberg... "Leader of the Band" He wrote it for his dad...my dad wasn't in any band nor did he played any instruments... but...while we all remember our dads differently...the sentiments are the same, eh? (except for those that have suffered abuse...) I found this tribute that someone did for their dad to "Leader Of the Band" It touched me deeply... Leader Of The Band (the music itself is just....lovely...)

my dear...da wife...wrote this... thanks you, da wife...ydb... [b]dear Moi of mine I just wanted to reflect a bit about your dad...my father in law. I am privileged that I got to meet him and at the time that I did. I think he had mellowed from the stories you had told me and I found him charming. I remember him sitting on the couch with the karaoke on and singing with the tv. That touched me. He had a nice, gentle voice and music seemed to speak to him...as it does me. I remember going to that resturant downtown with Tam and your mom. He was intersting to listen to, even though he repeated a few things. He wanted to share his culture and that touched me. I remember him calling me into his room and talking to me. He wanted me to move down so we could play Chesters(Chess) when he couldn't sleep. He made me laugh....like you do....and loved to talk I remember him talking to me a great length and you grinning as you walked by the door cuz it wasnt' you stuck in there. I remember taking him to the beach...and the watermelon...and learning that he had been a great swimmer. I remember knowing that he loved you and wishing you knew it for sure. I remember how hurt you were that last time you saw him and then how crushed you were when he was gone. I have watched you make peace with alot of things, including the part of him that llives in you and how your success is indirectly his. I love your papa and am greatful for what he has contibuted to the man you are today!

OMG Moi! You are just killing me here..........I can hardly see the keyboard throught the tears. I had never heard My Dad, very beautiful ..thank you so much for sharing it with me,
The leader of the band........can I say Damn? Well DANG! That is one of "our" songs, me and my Dad's. I am just sitting here bawling....... I am so sorry that we share this tremendous sadness. But MOI I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing these songs, and your beautiful letter you wife wrote you. It means a great deal to me, knowing I am not alone in this over powering grief. Thank you!!! Nikki
