Default Does shampoo have shelf life?

I'm sure it does, and I don't think I'd be dipping my head in something that I found in Grandma's old trunk, but what about little travel bottles that might have been hiding in my suitcase for a couple/three years? If they stink okay, are they still okay?

Some ingredients may go bad with light exposure and time.

Some shampoos have medicinal things in them which don't last forever. The sod.lauryl sulfate may stay quite a while.
Any discoloration, off odor, anything floating in it...etc are bad signs.

put a little on your hands and wash your hands with it. If it lathers up and smells ok, I would think it's alright.

I had some shampoo (the hideously cheap stuff you buy at the grocery store) that seemed to go bad. It just seemed to quit making my hair feel like it was clean.

Now I shell out a bit more for the stuff the guy who cuts my hair sells. (Systeme Biolage is what I use currently. I've also used Paul Mitchell shampoos)

My dad freaks me out sometimes with what he'll put in his hair. He uses shower gel, bar soap (eek!) and then wonders why his head itches. I now give him the leftovers of my shampoo when I go buy a new bottle. I think he uses that or my mom's shampoo and doesnt use bar soap anymore.

This reminds me...I've been a lazy slug for several days. I better go wash my hair. (cut it shorter last week, and it seems I dont need to wash it as often now...yay. Less work for me) I'm just so tired today that I might just go back to bed. (hope I'm not getting my dad's cold)

I am forever changing shampoo. My lil housekeeper girl gets the left over bottles and does the happy dance. I try to go sulfate free, but am not always successful in finding stuff that keeps my hair clean, and soft, without going greasy in 2 hours.

If you are wondering about that bottle, then....chuck it out.

My friend is a pharmacist at the local store. He said tons of folks are stealing shampoo! I guess its pricey and folks cant/wont afford it. Not many know it, but there are no cameras and no security in that store. They could simply load up a carriage and walk out, and no one would stop them. He said he finds packaging from all sorts of stuff in the bathroom. Diapers are a big theft item too. Folks take their strollers in the public bathroom and come out with a new row of diapers in the strollers.

back to shampoo. I am forever changing. I still havent found one I love. EverPure has a nice sulfate free one, and pantene does a nice job.

I tried the pricier salon brands and had no better results than the $2-3 stuff, so I went back. Maybe when money is not so tight I'll look into the all natural products but that seems kind of a wash (lol) because then I color my hair?

Anyhoo, I will switch back and forth, if something seems to lose effectiveness, and that means one bottle will go into the cabinet for a while. But that's the only way it doesn't get used all up. And then, if we run out, I'll dig it out and use it. Never had one go bad though.

Bar soap gets funky looking, and I've pitched that, but shampoo, gel soaps? Never even thought about them getting ucky.

What's wrong with bar soap? I used it in the army. Continued using it after I got out. Then I got married. I now use suave stuff. I can't envision the stuff going bad unless it's exposed to air.

Now I digress. I remember when a sample bottle of shampoo showed up in the mail when I was maybe 6 years old. In a NEW, UNBREAKABLE, PLASTIC bottle!

Yeah, right. Tell that to a 6 year old. The bottle shattered at the bottom of the basement steps - shampoo all over the place.

Bar soap - after it's been used. I hate the stuff period, but dh insists. Ugh. Get it wet and if you don't keep using it, it gets all cracked and gross. Even some brands if not used - seems the more natural, the less shelf life.

His brand is Ivory. Ewwww. If it leaves that nasty of a film on the shower walls, I don't even want that on me.

Actually, kind of nice with him away. No goopy bar of soap laying around and the shower is so much cleaner lol.

Yuck! Ivory soap is why I cant use most bar soaps now. (worst stuff for my skin)

I use Neutrogena soap if I have to have a bar soap. Only soap that I can stand the smell of. It's actually quite pleasant.

My grandmother used to use Dove soap, because it was my grandfather's favorite. I think Dove soap might even be worse than Ivory.
