I made a red velvet cake once. Just once. I did a good job at making it from scratch, and making the actual cake wasnt a big deal for me, but making the frosting from scratch...ruined homemade cakes for me.

It wasnt cream cheese frosting, and if I remember right (it's been about 20yrs or more) it involved cooking milk and flour in a double boiler. The frosting tastes pretty good, but the whole cooking of milk and flour...not very pleasant to my nose. I dont think I ate any of that cake. Pretty sure that's the only cake I ever made from scratch.

I googled the recipe for the frosting.

I'd rather buy premade frosting and put that on my cakes...actually, I like to just go to the bakery and buy the premade cake and frosting that's ready to eat. Tastier that way.

I used to make chocolate chip cookies from scratch...every friday. (got pretty good at it, and had the recipe memorized) but that's too much work for me now. If I have to bake cookies, I'll get the pre-mixed dough and make my cookies that way.

I was making (knitting and crocheting) some gifts, but decided to just buy presents once my left hand went numb.

I'm still knitting and crocheting, just not as much. It's kind of nice to not have any deadlines.

I might use some of the time I'd be crocheting my fingers off to make cookies (from a pre-made bucket of dough) this year on Xmas eve. (that reminds me, I have to go buy new baking sheets for my dad)

OMG, that's what I'm living on! Natural vanilla with any kind of fruit in a blender. MMMM!

I ate tons of Yoplait Whips - the ones in the newer ads that are cake flavored and stuff.

Key lime pie, pineapple upside down, cherry cobbler....mmmmmm.

I go through periods where I can't eat/digest my food well (thank you spinal lesion). So I have created several smoothie recipes. It is much cheaper than buying Ensure of something similar. I mix in all sorts of fruits and veggies with plain yogurt. Orange juice is also good to mix in the smoothie. I love cucumber smoothies! They are so refreshing in the summer.

Hey RW! You are right, Yoplait is the best yogurt. I have been eating it for breakfast for the past couple of months and it's really good. Plus, it has helped my digestive track alot.

There is a Thick and Creamy Light version~100 cals, which my DH even likes. I never thought I'd EVAH see my DH eating yogurt, but he takes one to work every day. Cherry Cobbler, Strawberry Shortcake and White Choc Raspberry rock!!!!

I just snagged some on sale for 40 cents each.... now, that's a bargain!
Plus, if anyone has the containers w/the bright pink foil lids, you can send the lids in to benefit breast ca. I have sent in a bunch already and they will accept them until 12/31.

Fage brand makes a great tasting Greek yogurt. It is strained so the whey is gone and a lot of the bitterness is washed out with the whey. It is found in better grocery stores, Trader Jo's or health food stores.

I make my yogurt and it tastes better than store bought because there are no additives.

Most of the yogurt in the stores have either aspartame or high fructose corn syrup both of which I consider poison from the devil.

You can buy a quart yogurt maker from Amazon or elsewhere for about $20.00.

I use Yogourmet yogurt starter which is found in health food stores or online at Amazon. You can also just use 1/3 cup of store bought yogurt if it has live cultures in it.

All you do is heat the milk to 180', take it off the hat and let it cool to 110' and put it in the yogurt maker with the starter for 6 to 24 hours, depending on how thick you like it.

It is very easy to make.
