Legzz, congratulations on the new house!

Ya know, any of us could eventually be in a WC for any number of reasons....not just the obvious MS.

That being said, if I had the chance to design and build my own house I'd make it as WC friendly as I could. That doesn't mean you have to completely redo the whole plan....just take into account that there may be a WC in the house at some future date and try to make it as accessible as you can. Might not even be you in the WC.

I think it would be cheaper if the accessibility changes were made as you build rather than going back to make the changes. Maybe just have wider doorways, a larger bathroom, a ramp for the outside doors and wider hallways. Then, whether you actually need to use a wheelchair or not the changes are already there and you won't have to worry about it! I think it would add value if you were to sell it in the future, too.

yeah i was discussing that with him too, the resale value. Plus with wider doors and hallways, it makes the house look more open. AND, the very same point that it is cheaper to do it the first time as opposed to building and then having to redo to make it more accessable.

And it's true, I may not be the one who needs the changes, I mean let's face it, the man has 2 blown knees and arthritis in his hip to go with the steel rod in nhnis leg. It's not getting any easier for him to get around these days.

We're redoing our kitchen next month, and if I end up in a WC, we'll have to move. Plain and simple.
Once his parents pass on and he retires, DH and I are planning to move anyway.
