Wisest Elder Ever

Aw, poor thing. Dej, he's got to have a guardian angel sitting on his shoulder because he's got the best cat-mom there ever was. I admire the way you've cared for this sweet little cat because we all know he'd be long gone if it wasn't for you. I know he loves you and appreciates all the attention you give him. I hope tomorrow is better for the both of you.

He was almost long gone, even with me as his mom. I stood sobbing and shaking at the vet, saying neither of us could handle anymore. That is when we got in contact with the new vet who is quite knowledeable about this condition.
Jack isnt cured with the surgery. He still has junk, and bits in his urine, its just that the male opening doesnt allow the stuff to pass easily, and it can easily become clogged. So, while the surgery didnt stop him from making such junk in his urine, it did make it so he will stop blocking, and creating life threatening days. Being unable to urinate forces the kidneys to shut down and then all that waste spills into the blood stream and creates such a large electrolyte imbalance that it stops their hearts. So, even if he is still junky in his urine, he wont block. No one fully understands why this happens. Some cats its lack of exercise. Some cats its diet, some cats its stress, and some cats just do it no matter how many fixes you provide. its interstitial cystitis. inflammation of the bladder wall, and that forces the body to produce crystals and mucous and other garbage that sheds off of the bladder wall, and it can be painful. My mother has this condition, and I have seen how much she has suffered thru the years. Jack slept with me most of the night, and I was happy for his company. He is some better today, but I will have to be more diligent in making sure he gets his meds. What a goofball. I am in love with this cat. He is incredibly sweet, and charming. Im glad the rest of you adopted him too.

Jackie is being quite sweet. He actually climbed in bed looking to cuddle about 4am. He is eating better, and sleeping better. His box habits are improving, and he is starting to grow fur back on his bald heinie. They shaved him from his ankles to his tail.
As long as I continue to give him his meds twice a week, and find a way to transition him off them, we both may survive this thing. DH got up and found the two babies snuggled into a blanket positioned at the slider door for optimal bird viewing. Its nice to see them snuggling again. They had such great affection for each other, but have avoided each other since Jack got so sick. Must work on basement visits to show him the basement didnt hurt him. silly cat.

Jack continues to do well as long as I remember to give him the antianxiety stuff on time. I am not going to do anymore Acpuncture as I saw no real change. its expensive, and if there is no benefit than...why spend the money and stress him by making him go in a cage once a week. I am going to ask his vet about maybe just allowing him to go thru withdrawl and getting him over it after he has healed completely from the surgery. It stresses him so to have me clean out his ears and then rub meds in them. I tried pills, but he drools so much he just slobbers out this remnant and doesnt get the benefit.
He has been seen cuddling the other kitty, sleeping on my head at night. enjoying the sun and watching the birds. He swears he is starving to death and wants the return of his junk food. He is making nice improvements.

went into the basement searching for some stuff, and I found a bag with fuzzy blankets in it. I thought it would be great for the kitties to have some snuggle blankets, so I dragged them out. Jack appeared out of no where, and went crazy! he loved, rubbed, snuggled and cried out loud on that blanket.
I thought at first it may have cat nip on it. I wrapped him in it and went about my business. I looked back over and he was searching thru it, then he jumped down and searched the bag it came out of. He looked in every box, pile and corner. He sat at the steps and cried out loud. I was done, so I dragged the blankets up and he sat on them and kept crying. I looked more closely and saw they were covered in Morgan fur. I took them away from him, and put them in the washer. he followed me to the washer and cried again. He then proceeded to vomit everywhere! he then took a nasty stomach turning poop and threw litter every where! He went into the bathroom and sat on Morgan’s stool (no one has sat on the stool since she died and I havent had the heart to remove it) and cried and cried. I had to medicate him. My god! it was just so sad. Frank sat with him while the meds kicked in. He vomited, he puked, he pooped, he cried. He really misses her. I had the blanket washed, and Jack was feeling some better, he actually came out to the LR and sat with frank. Sheesh! what a mess! I have never seen a cat so joyful to roll in a blanket, and then got hysterical that he couldn’t find her. Poor thing. Broke my heart. For those that dont remember Morgan was my 23 y/o cat that was put to sleep the very end of May. She and Jack were buddies, and it appeared that with her decline Jack became quite ill. He did much better after being medicated and crawled into bed about 2 am to be held. I snuggled up against him and held him close for about 2 hours. This morning he is up and chirping. Singing to his birds and laying in the lone patch of sun that laid across the kitchen table. Jack has made great improvements since his surgery. He is still not using the basement box, but he has been spotted several times in the basement. He has been playful and sweet and has even sought out affection. Thats the jack update.

Oh, that is a sad story. We had to wash and clean all of Sheba's resting spots and bedding when she died.
I threw her favorite cardboard boxes (yes she loved boxes!) away in fact. I am sure cats and dogs grieve like us... with a sense of loss. I've seen it too many times.

Sometimes animals are more human than humans are! Anyone who says animals have no emotions has obviously never had a pet!
