Jack has been doing some better. He calmed a bit when he realized that every time I came into a room, it wasnt to pick him up, or mess with him. This last week tho, his pee hole has remained damp and sometimes stays wet. He was doing well at staying dry for a long time. Wondering if he was just too big bellied to clean his own, for the last two weeks we have had him on one meal a day and it seems he is reaching it more easily.

He slept with me last night, and kept getting up, but kept coming back to bed. He is not normally a momma cuddler unless he isnt well. its all about daddy. This morning he is in and out of the box and I highly suspect a urinary tract infection.

His ear meds (elavil) is down to once a week. It used to be 3x a day. We dont know if its the lack of meds or if it is a bladder infection, so at 11:15 off to his favorite vet we go. He has still not used the basement box, but has been spotted playing or hiding down there, so at least he has returned to it.

Thats the Jack update. Will let you know.

I hope he feels better soon. Hopefully you caught it before it had a chance to get too bad.

Let us know how he's doing. Poor little thing.....he's just had more than his fair share of potty troubles.

Wishing you the best with Jack and trusting in the capabilities of your vet. I've not read all 11 pages of this thread so I'm sure I'm missing a great deal of information. But, I am familiar with the physical challenges of an older cat, urinary retention and UTIs.

Keep us informed.

JAck is only 4. He ran into this issue back in July. We ended up having surgery to remove his peenie so that he would stop blocking. That catches up most who see 11 pages and dont want to go backwards. tons of drama.

They kept him at the vets. he had an empty bladder, and they need urine to be able to test for infection. His temp was normal, but he was blood stained on his pee hole. So, something is going on. He is sweet, playful and eating, so it cant be too horrible. UTIs are miserable tho, I dont wish it on anyone. Jack was not happy about being there, but he will survive. They will give him fluids and so forth and I will go pick him up before closing time. Hopefully they will have answers by then. Either way I am bringing him home tonight.

Thanks for the prayers, Jack has been thru so much. He just needs to stop this.

Call from the vet who said they decided to shave Jack down and see his incision area. Maybe it was a stricture or something, so they shaved him up and looked. He retained a stitch from the surgery. I asked if it was a stitch that was dissolvable or a removable one, and she hesitated quite a bit. Led me to believe it should have been clipped and wasnt. The stitch was infected, as well as a bladder infection. (probably caused by bacteria riding on the suture) so, he will get an anti biotic shot, and pain meds and is coming home. He should feel better now with that stitch out and relief for his bladder. Poor thing. Hasnt he been thru enough?

it was a different vet that removed the sutures, so I cant blame the place he is in now. They have been quite kind and generous with him, so I am pleased someone thought enough to shave him down and actually look at his surgical site.

Im off to get the boy.

Big kitty smooches for Jack. I hope the poor boy feels better soon. He's had enough!

Good for you for being such an attentive Mommy.

Thanks for the update. It sounds as if Jack isn't out of the woods yet, but it's really lucky the vet found the stitch problem.

My kitty went through a bad patch last winter/early spring--ear infection with an infected tooth, then later some seizures. It took time and more time for her gradually to get over all of this.

Jack seems to be in excellent hands.

Jack is home, and stoned!

They removed the stitch. He got an antibiotic shot. A pain shot and elavil. I just got him down to once a week on the stuff and now he is back to every other day. He is sweet and friendly and happy to be home. I am hoping now that he filled his gullet he will go lay down and sleep it off.

Lily is quite upset because we all smell like that cute puppy we saw and couldnt resist holding. Soooo sweet! a schnauzer/poodle mix or a snoodle. about 6weeks old and just precious.

We will give jack some time to calm, heal and recover. I am thrilled to bits that someone thought enough to want to shave him down and actually look at his incision line to be sure. They surely saved the day. They could have just given him a shot and sent him home where it would have continued.

Im exhausted! time for lay down rest for me.

Jack was struggling a bit this morn, so I called the vet, and we decided to put him back on pain meds for the weekend. He was seeking the box every 10 to 15 minutes and while he was alert and interested in the room, it was hard to watch him constantly seek the box. I gave him an injection of buprinex and after a few minutes he sought out DHs bed, and has been blissfully sleeping since then. Sleeping on his back with all his big pink feet sticking out in every direction.

This poor kitty has certainly been thru it. I knew the surgery wouldnt correct the condition, but would prevent it from being life threatening again. I am once again changing his diet to a non fish based formula and mixing it with the prescription food. I have to get this inflammation back under control.

at least he is comfy again and sleeping.

Good luck to your kitty. We had a male several years ago who got repeatedly blocked and ended up with same surgery. He ended up A-Ok in the long run (infection, tore stitches etc). Ate the special food and even learned to use the litter box correctly. He thought he had to pee when he didn't really need to "go"- vet said they need to learn how to use thier new plumbing (must be an odd sensation and rather uncomfortable till all is healed)

Kitty kisses from our cats to yours!
