I can still drive, but I can`t really plan when, which makes any sort of plans impossible. My walking has gotten to the point where I don`t do snow or ice at all.

I guess I am lucky? I did enough before the MS hit that I am really comfortable not having to do much and still be content.

Plus mini me lives with me, my son 23, and we can have fun just going to the grocery store. Besides my dog misses us when we are gone.

I stopped dating in 2010, my dates couldn`t grasp the fatigue issues and kept wanting to do this and that and go here and there, I am done with all that.

One of my life's greatest pleasures...I still drive whenever and wherever, but last month, I had to turn driving at night over to DH for the first time...just couldn't seem to get all of the sensory info needed, and I got overwhelmed. I don't look forward to the day I can't drive anymore. That is the day I buy a condo in downtown Chicago

Default Very limited driving!!

I have had bad eyesight since childhood. I am nearsighted and farsighted. If I didn't spend the extra money for progressive lenses I would wear fish bowls or coke bottle glasses. I'm real hesitant about driving at night or long distances. I think it is a mixture of fatigue and anxiety. Besides I don't really trust my eyesight too much when driving. I drive a sporty car and my next will be a small suv or sedan. I only drive about 20 miles or less in a trip. Before MS, I was pretty much a race car driver. I had no fear of driving in rush hour traffic or night time driving. Now I pray while driving in the rain or snow. I try not to drive after dusk. But with it getting dark before 5, I have to drive home from work.

I only drive sometimes and short distances. Of course, I had that absence seizure in June and couldn't drive for 6 months. Additionally, my last flare left my right leg so weak that I couldn't even push the gas pedal. The last time I tried to drive, I was able to do the gas pedal but not the brake. I turned around and went home. Too dangerous. My 6 month free of any event is up but DD20 is using my car to get to and from work as well as to run errands as she needs. I don't use the car much and she has a need for it right now. The downside is that when I need something I have to depend on her or others to get me to where I need to go. We are working on getting her a car so that I can have mine back so I can run quick errands and stuff.

I drive whenever and wherever except after dark

I do very little night driving. It's not an MS thing it's a congenital cataracts type thing. My night vision has always sucked.

I havent driven since probably the first week of december. I think.

With the drop foot, it was suggested that I dont try to drive till after I get done with some PT and see if the AFO helps. I can move my right foot again a lot better than I could, but I can tell there's still some problems.

I've also started to have more numbness right at my waist, hips and thighs. It's moved over to the left side, so now I'm starting to get nervous that I'm about to get a left side drop foot. (geeze, this MS crap is getting annoying! and a lot more inconvenient!)

My physiatrist told me that once I get to where I think I can drive again, to have my dad take me to a nice big parking lot, and try driving there (like when I was learning to drive) I might try that in a few weeks...probably after I get the AFO adjusted and try walking with the Dorsi Flex (so that the foot moves at the ankle. Right now the AFO is in a fixed position)

I'd like to get back to driving, but with it being winter right now (snowed last night) it's not bothering me a whole lot on not being able to drive at the moment. Altho, I would like to take my 4wheel drive SUV out to a parking lot to play in the snow a little bit, we just havent had enough snow to make that fun. Other than playing a little bit in the snow with my SUV in a parking lot, I'm not that big of a fan of driving on real streets in the winter time. I think I'm a halfway decent wintertime driver, it's just all the other people in their cars that I'm scared of.

Hopefully I'll be driving again soon. I dont really expect to be able to, but hope I do.

I still drive. The only time I have ever been afraid to drive was with my first round with vertigo. I couldn't steer me straight, much less a car! I was 30 yrs old at the time.

I still feel comfortable driving in the day time, it's night time that concerns me. My vision seems to get distorted in the dark... not just low vision, but offset some how.

I do miss driving across country, but have no reason to now. I also miss driving the stick shift ...not due to the MS, but we sold the car.

Lots of folks mentioned driving after dark.....or rather not driving after dark. My vision is worse at night and bright lights really make it worse. Especially bright lights that flicker or blink. When I'm a passenger in a car at night I have to close my eyes alot of the time. The bright lights make my nystagmus much worse.

Closing your eyes whilst driving could be hazardous to your health!

I drove to the Tampa Florida area by myself in 2009, a 23 hour trip. To Providence Rhode Island in 2010, a 12 hour trip, but at times I can feel dizzy driving down my driveway.
