I'm with you on that Ginnie,

While I certainly don't mind a bit of milder weather in the middle of winter, our concern up here is if that it continues and the fruit trees go into bud too early, then it gets cold again...poof  There goes the fruit crop for the year.

Hope that your plants do OK. If/when it warms up again, making sure that the ground is wet will protect the roots of perennials and trees from damage if another extreme cold spell hits. If the roots get dry and then it gets cold in the ground or freezes, the growing tips of the roots get damaged and the plant dies.

With love, Erika

Hi Erika

I watered the yard before the cold snap, and on top of that we got a bit of rain. I do have most of the more tender plants covered, and the orchids are in the garage. I walked to the beach today, Not a soul out there and for good reason. Burrrrrrrrrr.............ginnie

Excellent! Hoping that they all pull through OK.
When I loose a plant, I actually mourn over it like I would an old friend.

With love, Erika

Critter damage

My biggest threat to the plants are raccoons. This place is over run with them. They eat the insides out of the plants. Trapped 8 last year, and I am getting ready to go at it again. I release about 40 miles east of here. They get trapped here, so there is an over population. Couple that with cold damage, and I am going to have a very busy spring. I actually like sitting on the butt, and working in the soil. Nice for working a few muscle groups too! I have always liked gardening, but not when it is over 90 outside!. ginnie:grouphug::D

weel it happened- Va Beach got snow (I got about 4") and everything is covered in ice and/or black ice. Wicked cold and worse windchills. Needless to say I plan on staying inside until it is all gone (crutches and ice/snow are a bad combo :o )

remind me again... when is springtime?

Not soon enough!

It's 23 here this morning but we're supposed to get another colder blast overnight and it will drop down to the single digits by tomorrow morning.

I am dreading my gas bill for this month.

And I saw on the national news last night that Alaska is closing it's ski resorts due to no snow. The construction crews are going to begin their spring construction early…crazy...

Usually you Southern Peeps are laughing at us by now. Not this year,
it seems you have joined us in our misery.. The horrible thing for us
Northerners is, we can't get away from our cold snowy weather by
going south!!!:D

Hi Sally

I feel sorry for those who come for vacation booked a year earlier. Cold cold cold, and they aren't happy campers. South is very cold this year. ginnie:grouphug:

Woke up to 20 degrees this morning with 2inches of snow on top of the
1 inch we already had. I am teasing my DD that since they moved here Dec 5th we have had cold weather they brought with them from NJ. LOL!

I was teased when I moved to Ky 5yrs. ago, that first winter was very cold and we had many Ice Storms. This has been the coldest winter my DS says, he has lived here for 19 yrs.

Jappy
