Oh great...our road crews have served strike notice, so that's why they weren't plowing snow yesterday. Great timing...right in the middle of a snow storm!
Ah, but we keep our sense of humour up here anyway. Here's a few entries from our community news blog. Enjoy! - "Gee, I hope they put up signs and do public service announcements on TV to tell the public they are on strike and that's why the streets aren't getting plowed. Otherwise the public will just think they're not plowing the streets like normal!" - "Try laying off about thirty percent of the employees. I'm sure that instead of three, they could have only two people lean on a shovel at a time." - "Better yet, just get rid of 30 percent of the shovels and one third of the workers will quit rather than stand up under their own power." :D With love, Erika |

"I hope it stays north and misses us all."
Well, I don't know if it all stayed up here or not and missed you, but it sure seems like it did. Wow...just wow. We've had a lot, even for here. I'm going to take some pictures and try to post them. It has been a couple of years that we've had this much snow fall in such a short period of time. At last official report we've had 26 inches over the last 4 days. My yard is a maze of huge 6+ foot high snow piles with trails dug out between them. The graders came by and piled the snow 4 feet high in the middle of the road so that the auger-snow blower machine and dump trucks can pick it up and haul it away. They just got done doing that on the main highway that goes through my town yesterday, so it will be a couple of days before they get to the side roads as well as my road on the edge of town. Until then, traveling by foot or vehicle involves negotiating the narrow channels between snow piles and the wind rows of snow that run on either side of the sidewalks and down the middle of the roads. It definitely gives the impression of being in a wintry rat's maze. There is a park, a stone's throw from my house and I expect to be hearing the screams of delight from the children who use a large hill in the park to tobaggon, snow board and tube ride down. I'm looking forward to taking Willy for a stroll over there later to watch them playing and having fun. My friend said that she would come with me, so I'll be safe, and there are benches to sit on all around the edge of the park. I think that getting out to do that is just as important for recovering from this surgery as will be the walk and other exercises that I've been given to do :winky:. That snow covered hill becomes somewhat of a community affair when kids are out of school on weekends and holidays throughout the winter. The kids are bundled up in their colorful snow suits, toques, scarves and mitts, while parents bring thermoses of hot drinks (some are spiked a bit :winky:), to sip on while they socialize and their kids play. Sometimes there are a couple of people on snowmobiles and they tow the kids on tobaggons and tubes around the park and/or up the hill. The park becomes a delightful mix of yapping dogs, laughing and screaming children, bundled up adults and good old fashioned fun :D. With love, Erika |

YIKES!
Our weather forecast is calling for another 2-3 feet of snow between this coming Thursday and Sunday. We're still dealing with getting some of it off our roads from the last dump. Who ever is praying for a White Christmas, please stop :D Here's some pictures of what it looks like up here: The first one is of the road leading to mine. Yes, that is a pile of snow right in the middle of it, dividing both lanes. The second one is the front of my little house with the piles of snow from digging a path to my door. The third one is of the plow truck in my back yard with Willy never far from it. He loves to go plowing. Dogs love trucks :). With love, Erika |
Awwwww, Willy..:hug::hug:
