Holding everyone that lives in the North east, in thoughts and prayer of staying safe with the storm that is heading your way.

We're getting more snow here as of last night with more expected today, but nothing like what is forecast for the North east.
Hope that everyone is stocked up in the North east, so that you can hunker down and stay home until it passes.

With love, Erika

I saw the weather forecast last night and those of you up North sure have been getting walloped by the snow this winter.

We've got light rain here in GA. But it's cold and going to get colder. I know lows in the 20's are nothing to the experienced Northerners but here in the south that's just dadgum frigid! :D

We might get some snow flurries tonight but nothing will accumulate. Funny how my opinions of weather have changed over the years. Now, I just want it to stay a reasonable temp (65 - 70 degrees) year round. :o

My son bought a feral cat feeding station for me for my birthday but it hasn't arrived yet. And once it gets here one of the boys will have to construct it. I wish I had it today. At least I could put food out and it would stay dry.

Hoping the snow and ice stop for the northern states. You've had enough.

Only a mere 4 to 6 inches here in SW Ohio.. I'm still glad I don't live in
Cleveland. I just assume that they are getting more snow, since I don't
get the weather station anymore.

We're looking at only 2-4" up here in the Northeast Kingdom, but we have a wind chill advisory the next couple of days. The wind chill tomorrow night could be lower than -30. I guess none of the ice will be melting any time soon.

I love the cartoon Sally :D.

It sure makes me wish that I could go down to Mexico right about now for a little sun and warmth. There's something about sitting on the beach during the relative coolness of the morning and evening, only worrying about whether or not the tide will reach the chair I'm sitting on :D. I used to go once or twice a year in the winter but haven't been since 2010.

We had another dump of snow yesterday morning and then it switched to rain for the rest of the day. What a mess! I had to drive home from the office in it and also in the afternoon to take Willy for his walk. The roads are coated in sheets of 2" thick ice with sloppy slush where the car tires don't travel and pretty much everywhere else.

I'm hoping that my garage roof holds up because there was 2 feet of snow up there yesterday morning and by afternoon it had collapsed down to a foot with all the rain. It turns the snow into a giant sponge, so it gets really heavy. And now it is supposed to get cold again, so it will freeze solid up there. I'm in no shape to get up there and shovel it off and there is no where to shovel it too even if I hired someone else to do it, so there it will stay...probably until spring.

Even so, things are not as bad as they are for some folks east of here. Central Canada hit -40 yesterday. A cup of hot coffee, if placed outside will freeze solid in under 5 minutes at that temp. I know, because we have the morning "coffee freeze test" that comes on the radio whenever the temp here goes below -25, and we've hit that magical -40 a couple of times over the last few years.

Never mind nose hairs freezing, even rubber car tires and the sap in trees freeze at anything below -30. Nothing quite matches the sound of trees exploding in the middle of the night. It sounds like gunfire.
Skin and flesh are also susceptible to quick freezing, so everyone who is outside looks like the Big-0 Tire man, with all their layers of clothing. At times like that if I need to go out, I put on such thick layers, that my thighs don't know each other anymore.

The news reports keep saying that it is pretty nasty in the Northeast.
While I can still joke about our weather here, I hope and pray that everyone there is holding up OK and is staying safe.

With love, Erika

It's 12 degrees here this morning......don't know what the wind chill is. :(

SallyC 01-03-2014 01:25 PM

Temp is -1 here this morning, WC -14.. The high will get to a whopping 12
degrees, today and we have 6 inches of snow that isn't going anywhere,
even though the sun is shining brightly.

I feel a little trapped.

Hello up North

Hello to all those people up north with the cold. We did not escape the cold weather either! Going into the 30's tonight. All plants are under a freeze warning. We honestly are colder than I ever remember it being down here. Lots of up North people visiting, and disappointed as it certainly isn't beach weather. I know it is better than the - temps so many are feeling. My heater is on. Many of my neighbors don't have heat! There was a time where it really wasn't needed this far south. Stay warm and out of the cold! ginnie:hug:

I was wondering what the weather in FL was like. It sounds very cold down there. I know the people, pets and plants are not used to that.

I dread getting my gas bill next month. I try to keep it at 68 but the past couple of days I've just had to turn it up. I keep telling myself that I'm doing it to keep my cats warm. They have warming blankets on both beds so I know they're toasty.

Hi Kitty

I have my plants covered the best I can. I have the heat on to 72. I guess I am not use to the cold like this. 68 is too cold kitty. Do you have an electric blanket to help? My house is small, only 925 sq feet. so my bills are ususally within reason, even with the summer using the air conditioner. Have good insulation up in the attic, solid roof (new) and it is the old plaster type of house with thick walls.
I look at the tourists walking around bundled up. I just know they are thinking "this is florida?" All the outdoor places, have outside heaters going. Now that is going to be a bill!
Would love to see the high surf, but that wind bites to the bone! wind chill is into the 20's.
Take care Kitty, and stay inside as much as you can until this cold breaks.
My kitten is named Hercules, and I heard that storm up north was named the same. If the storm is anything like this kitten, it will be a mess. Kitten into everything! ginnie:grouphug:
