Default You would not believe what my dad just did.

We just had our front bathroom re-done. With one of those nice walk in tubs that has the door.

Well, my dad was going to take the very first bath in the totally finished bathroom...and guess what he did?

He FORGOT to close the freaking door on the walk-in tub!! He thought it was closed, but it wasnt. My mom heard the water coming out of the tub and went in to tell him what was going on...apparently he needs his hearing checked. Because he was yelling at her to get out of the bathroom while she was trying to tell him that the tub was leaking.

Now the basement has a ton of water in it (not the finished side, which I live in)

I went into the basement when I heard my mom yelling about the water leaking out of the tub. I found it raining in the store room, so I yelled upstairs to my dad that the water was leaking into the basement all over his power tools and tool boxes and some of MY things.

He didnt seem to understand me and was still happily taking a bath and yelling at my mom to stop yelling at him.

When I yelled for him to turn the water off because it was headed for our circuit breaker, then he was "oh! the water is LEAKING into the basement...DUH!!"

now we're going to have mold...yayforthatNOT!

I live in this basement, I dont want it molding down here because I'm pretty sure that I have a serious allergy to things like that.

Now I'm all hot and sweaty and wet and my right foot is numb from the exertion because I had to go into the store room and start hauling stuff out of it to dry. He just wants to leave it all in there to dry. If it wasnt going to be raining here soon, I'd be putting everything out onto the patio to dry in the sun.

I think my headache is coming back. argh!

I know it was an accident, but when I told him it was heading for the electrical stuff, and I didnt know if it was going to stop or not, that he might have thought it to be a bit dangerous to be in the tub where the water was leaking from...

I just went in there to check and see if the fan was drying stuff. My dad had left all sorts of boxes on the floor directly between the fan and the water. How is the fan supposed to dry the water if it cant blow onto the water. More hot and sweaty for me now.

I have the fan blowing on the ceiling because I think it needs to dry faster...the floor is just cement, but the ceiling has pipes, an air conditioning vent, cable wires and electrical wires and toilet and shower drains and some loose insulation. If I can get that to dry quick, then maybe it wont get all moldy/mildewy down here.

I have towels all over the floor now too. Good thing there are a couple of empty plastic totes to toss them in when we're done with them.

I cant believe my dad just left with my mom to go shoe shopping while I'm here cleaning up his drippy, soggy mess. Can you tell that I'm a bit peeved?

I am so tired now...

and I just discovered that my Rubbermaid tote FULL of Beanie Babies was in the direct line of fire (water).

Luckily, it was a really GOOD Rubbermaid tote. They're all perfectly dry. Once I get the energy, I'm going to decorate the headboard of my bed with all my Beanie Babies that I was collecting in the late 90s and early 2000's.

And now I'll have someplace to put the yarn that's piling up on every flat surface of my bedroom. I better go get the lid out of the store room just in case my dad tosses it.

I just picked up all the towels that were soaked and put them in an empty Rubbermaid tote so that now the floor can dry, since there is no longer any active flooding and we kept it from reaching the wall to the finished rooms.

I am so tired, I dont think I have the energy to go take a shower myself. About to start crying I'm so tired. Stupid Dad for leaving to go shoe shopping with my mom...argh! He probably wont even thank me for cleaning the stuff up. (I dont want mildew! or mold!)

I'm telling him to hire someone to come in and scrub the floors and cement wall with bleach...not sure what to do about the ceiling (open ceiling with pipes and a/c ductwork)

I've been moving the fan around and having it dry the ceiling and then the floor. I'm hoping that alone will keep anything from from getting moldy/mildewy.

I am so tired...but I got my Beanie Babies out and inspected for damage, and they're happily crowded on top of my bed's headboard.

I was going to spend the afternoon crocheting and knitting...I never got to, and now I'm too tired to sit and play with yarn.

Oh my! Things like that are so frustrating, even when not done deliberately or with malice! When my parents were living with us, we had a couple of unfortunate incidents, especially involving my Dad. He always felt so bad, so we went somewhere private to bonk our heads against the wall, and tried not to make him feel worse.

I can remember once Dad shuffling over to me and saying, "I'm afraid I sprinkled on your rug." I just grinned and said, "Well, that's why God invented Febreze!" Then afterward, I went outdoors and wailed to my husband, "Dad peed on my new carpet!" What can you do? I'd trade all my carpets to have them back for five minutes.

How long have your parents lived with you?

Me, too, B2Y. I'd take all the frustrations and aggravations just to be able to spend one more day with my Dad. I miss him so much. Like you, I vented to my family but never to him.

We all do things that we don't intend to do.....we all make mistakes and mess up from time to time.

Erin, I'm sure if you asked your Dad if you ever did anything that aggravated or frustrated him he'd be able to think of a few incidents!
