DM I only had the hip pain when I was in withdrawal from the steroids. The neuro told me it was like rheumatoid and would last 2-4 days. I can sympathize with you but mine only lasted 2 days. I couldn't imagine it lasting a month. I hope you get some relief. Let us know what the doc says.

I am sending some hugs your way

DM - I can sympathize with you on the hip pain. I am experiencing it right now. It usually happens on most days when 1)it is cold outside, 2)it is raining outside or 3)over use of the muscle by standing too long. My rheumy told me thatmine is due to RA and he has given me davocet. It works fine and doesn't make me tired, however, the pain is getting worse. I was born a breached baby and my hips were already out of place when born so this also has a lot to do with my pain. I have tried oxycodone, but the darvocet seems to work a little better at this time.

Maybe you can call and ask for some percocet, although if you get tired on darvocet you will probably be KO'd with percocet.

But please do call the doc...the pain is a killer, I know.

Missy

Just MHO, but when I start having problems with my joints, I head for an orthopedist or a sports medicine specialist. One of them saved me from unnecessary surgery recommended by a podiatrist. The podiatrist had "tried everything" and "surgery was my only option"...the orthopedist recommended wearing wider shoes...problem solved.

And yes, to me it does sound like bursitus, and the best med I know of for that is naproxen (Aleve).

Wider shoes? Amazing!

In a perfect world, all docs would be spot-on with their diagnosis.

*praying for a perfect world*

Hmmm, actually, in a perfect world I guess there would be no pain.

DM, I hope you and your doc can find that magic potion to end your hip pain. Aaaackkkk!

I hate to say this, but it helps knowing other people understand the type of pain I am having. I mean that in a sincere way.

Thanks Missy abd TXBatman~ The weather HAS been flip flopping lately, so maybe that's not helping, and I have to be ultra careful of certain meds like Ibuprofen, as they are hard on the kidneys. (only have one)

Brain and Sox~ It does seem to hurt more when I am in a position or move to make the hip turn. *even sitting makes it ache* So, the actual bending of the joint radiates pain. I know I'm a wimp! Thanks for the input!

Thanks Von~ Are you talking about a Tens Unit? My DH has one for his back, so we put the electrodes/patches on my hip last night and did a TX. It did seem to help, but it was short lived.

Thanks Tracey (GG) I can use that hug! Here's one for you.

Yeah Sandy~ You know me pretty good by now and I did take a tumble last wkend while camping. *no, it wasn't alcohol related* b/c the hip hurt B4 the fall. I am just waiting for the Rheumy's office to call. And, we all know how long that can take.

Thanks everyone..... I feel bad for anyone who has this type of pain anywhere... OUCH! How long does Bursitis last?? I want it to feel better like>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Yesterday!!

DM
I'm sorry you are in such pain. If it's not one thing it's another. Hoping your doc calls soon, and relief is quickly following.

Sending healing hugs

It feels better in the morning, but as soon as I move around throughout the day, it really hurts alot. The pain is mainly in the hip area, but seems to radiate around the area a little. I have Tramadol, which tends to constipate, and Darvocet, which makes me tired.

Should I call the Rheumy and tell him about the pain? To me, it sounds like Bursitis/Tendonitis. Anyone have any ideas as to how long this pain in the HIP will last? I can't do anything or it aggravates it immensely.

Thanks for any input! I am so frustrated!!!!
DM,

I think you should call the doctor. I had this on and off for awhile, and I figured out that it had to do with a contorted way I'd sit in my chair and sleep too. Sort of like an ostrich stretch, folding up the left leg. I babied it for a few months, and it eventually got better. It also got bad when I had a recumbant stationary bike and the motion on my hip made it worse. Can you pinpoint any movement that typically sets off the inflammation? That's what I did instead of going to the doctor. I wonder now if I'd had PT maybe if it might have improved faster?

Feel better soon Sweetie!

P.S. I see that you did call the doctor and you're waiting for a call back, I hope it doesn't take too long!

Thats too bad about the kidney, as NSAIDs are good at reducing inflammation. You might also try topical creams (I like theragesic). Getting heat into the joint can reduce the swelling some also. One of the hallmarks of bursitis is if you can move a joint one way and it doesn't hurt and it hurts like the dickens to move it another way. That is usually a sign that the swollen bursa sac is pinching a nerve when the joint rotates a certain way. If it is just painful to move no matter what you do, then it may be something other than bursitis.

Have you heard from you doc yet????????

Have you tried a moist heating pad! When I am having pain and spasms in my hip and back the moist heat seems to settle it down a bit.

Hope you feel better soon
