I have no problem with being healthy but I think there is way too much emphasis on looks.
I remember watching Marie Osmond on her show with her brother when I was young, and I also remember watching Bertinelli on the show she was on when I was very young.

There's no way they're in their 40s...(just googled them, they're both 50)

I really think that whoever is producing the commercials they've been on recently has a really good special effects department, because I wouldnt be surprised if they were touching up the video a bit to make them look better.

Until I was in my early 40, I looked good. I remember the surprise in the young man's face as he approched from the back, tapped my shoulder and I spun around. You could see his face register "She's old!!!". When the kids (9?) ran by and I said "There goes my twins", he really got a horrified look. 45 came, everything went. Not weight, but the belly rounded and other stuff shifted. I once had a student (well, it was a school for disturbed kids) who would jiggle my upper arms and say "my mom hates when I do that." Well, so did I.Things do shift, Not so perky anymore, are they? Even DH has body changes. Thank goodness we remember!!!! I always wanted to be a feisty old lady, but not so soon (it seems) and in a chair.

If you want one of those bodies, its EASY! Just hire a catering firm to prepare your meals, and drop off your daily allowance at your door each day. Have a personal trainer show up once a day to take you through your paces. Dont forget to add a pool to the yard, and a work out room dedicated to you. All precor machines please. Add a 65 inch Plasma so you can view a scenic roadway while you ride the cycle in the gym, makes ya think your going somewhere. When you feel like cheating, or slipping out for a milkshake, have a rolodex full of spiritual guides, and fitness folks at your finger tips, who will show up day or night to cheerlead you through your cravings. Also a professional make up crew, and photographers when your ready to document the results helps.

How can you not do this for yourself? sheesh!

I could look like that too, if I had that many things at my disposal. For now, I am trying to walk at least one mile per day. Some days its only half. I have to keep a list of foods needed, and prepare our meals at home. I dont have fancy free weights, I have canned soup that I use for weights. A good pair of shoes was my total investment in my exercise. (Well, that and the Wii fit.)

Airbrushing helps by the way. How many have seen Queen Latifah's scar on her forehead? she has a pretty deep scar on her right upper forehead. in most pics you dont see it. a good photographer can work wonders.

Hey Kell~ AYUP, I've noticed changes here and there too. I haven't fluctuated much on my weight, but I do have a different body shape than I used to. I used to have a prominent waistline and now I don't have those curves.. (sigh) I'm no longer able to work out like I used to, so my muscle tone is kaput!! (another sigh) Oh, and I'm shorter!! WAHHHH! I have also lost an inch in height due to a few compression fx's from my Osteo.

Mother never told me about all this junk!!!!!

Now, how do I apply the spackling? I have some that I use for my paintings and even have my Dremel so I can chisel in some muscles, do a quick non surgical nose job, give myself a "girl" lift, etc. LOL

Dej - Isn't that the truth! Imagine what we could all look like if we had all those personal services as well as a good airbrush artist and photographer. Heck, they airbrush those people to make them look thinner, more muscular, bustier, etc. Yes, if I were a vain person and had the desire and energy, I could use the spray tan stuff to "create" a new me. LOL

Kitty - My body shape changed after my dx. I put weight on and I now have cleavage! I never had a chest before and I don't know what I am supposed to do with it. I want my itty's back! Also since MS has forced me to slow down I am not going at the speed of light anymore so this is making my shape change. Then add age in to the mix and you get a lump mattress. LOL

I am not sure about you but my shape changed after I had kids too. Not only did I get DDs but I got hips too.

Same here! Although I started the "shift" around 37. Wore belly tops until I was 36, not hoochie ones more like hippy clothes, but holy crap when the summer of 37 yo rolled around they were permanently shelved. I think I was deluded into thinking that if I maintained my weight I wouldn't look like I had aged significantly...wrong!

Ahhhh what ya gonna do? No one cheats age and the ones that try end up looking like a shrunken alien head, imvho.

So true!! A funny but true story of just this scenario. I was in Publix and a woman was there who had on a belly top, short shorts and even had her belly button pierced. She looked like she had baked in a tanning bed for most of the year...her skin had the consistency of alligator hide. But she thought she looked hot! She had a little girl with her - probably 5 or 6 years old. And she was in front of me in line. The cashier was asking the little girl if she wanted a piece of candy but first said "you have to ask Grandma if it's okay first". The look on that lady's face was priceless. At first she looked shocked, then angry, then embarrassed. It was obvious to me that she wasn't the child's mother......or if she was she was an "older" mother. I assumed she was the Grandmother, too. But.....she was dressed like a 20 year old. Even from behind she couldn't pull it off. The little girl removed all doubt when she looked at her and said, "can I, Mimi?"!!

I'd have loved to have heard the conversation in that car on the way home!!
