Default Good for You

The stupidity of people really does amaze me sometimes.

I actually had this happen to me while I was still in the car!

I had pulled into a H/C spot at the local Wally world and was organizing myself, cane, purse, keys, etc. Made sure the placard was on the mirror, then looked to open my door......low and behold, there was a little old lady squeezing her car into the wheelchair loading area between me and the next legally parked H/C car.

I could not even OPEN my door, put the window down and stuck my head out the window with a look of amazement/astonishment/ what the he$% are you trying to do look. Luckily for me reality intruded for said little old lady and she s...l...o..w...l...y backed out the the non existing space and I was FREE!

You were so right in speaking to the person. I keep saying I am going to keep some window paint in my car and when I see someone in the H/C spot without plates or the card, write something "polite" on their windshield!!

I moved from a big city to small town USA for exactly that attitude. I can't begin to count the number of people who have yelled at me in the grocery store parking lot for no reason.

One day a woman yelled at me for walking too slow. I tried to tell her I had MS and I was walking as fast as I could. She wouldn't even listen to me. She just kept yelling. I felt really bad because she had a small boy with her who was learning how to be rude and disrespectful. It was sad.

I have not had one problem since I moved. People actually stop and wait for me if I am walking slowly. Some even offer to help carry things or move things out of my way. I am still in awe that there are actually nice people left in this world.

I was still in the car when the lady was pulling into the wheelchair access area. She pulled in right as I was pulling in. Just blows my mind, since there were open parking spots in other handicap spots.

I've written notes to people before. Havent done that in a long while tho.

Since I'm still mobile, and the only reason I park in a handicap spot is because my mom needs me to (it's her placard) I've been trying to keep karma happy by offering to grab shopping carts for other people parking in handicap if they look like they need the support of a cart to walk into the building. I have to do it for my mom, so I dont mind offering to grab an extra for other people.

If someone is getting out of their car when we're coming out of a store with a cart, I offer to let them take our cart if they need it as soon as we've unloaded it in the car.

You were not wrong in saying something. I have 2 pet peeves about parking lots. One is people who don't put their carts where they belong, two is people that park in hadicap spaces that don't have a placard or tag. I do not have a hadicap placard (and hope i won't need one for a long time) but my partner does, and even if I drive her car I will not use a hadicap space. Those should be left for people who really need it. In my opinion this woman, even though she was clearly hadicapped was just rude for parking in the wheelchair access.

I love this. My partner is from a large urban area and I come from small town midwest. We argue all the time about "rude city people" and "country hicks". I hate urban and suburban areas. I will take friendly polite "country hicks" anyday. God I miss Home.
