Unhappy No little furry kitty face

Picabo was euthanized this morning. She was 15 years old. The sub-q fluids did not go well for either of us, so we had to stop. I tried to make this last month or so the happiest I could for her. I spent a lot of time petting and holding her, gave her her favorite foods all day, just loved her.

I made her a little coffin out of a box painted white. She looked just like she was sleeping all curled up, so peaceful. We took her to my mom's farm and buried her under a wild pear tree. We picked some pretty stones from the creek for grave markers and we will carve her name and dates on one later.

Steve went with me to the vet's. He cried when she slipped away. I've never seen him cry before, even at his grandparents' funerals.

When we got back home it really hit me hard, because there was no Picabo waiting at the door, smiling up at me with her little furry face and her big golden eyes, asking politely to be fed. I just can't believe she's really gone. It's just not right.

I'm heartsick.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have been there more than once. It never gets any easier either. Take care.

I'm so sorry............. I'm sitting here crying after reading your post. Our pets are part of our family. You were so kind to make her last month with you as comfortable as you could. I hope it gets a little easier for you as the days go by. It's so hard to lose a pet.

She always seemed very happy, which actually made my part SO much harder. I knew that physically she was deteriorating but she never acted like she felt bad. She was constantly hungry and would follow me around all day hoping for a bite of something tasty. If I sat down, she was ready for lap duty. I've always loved her dearly, but since I've been so close to her trying to take care of her the last month or so, I am feeling the loss very deeply.

Everywhere I look in this house, something reminds me of Picabo and I start welling up again. Her food and water bowls, her favorite sleeping spot by the window - I'm wishing I could turn my mind off at will right now. If I distract myself for a minute, I'll imagine I hear her about to jump up on my lap, or see her out of the corner of my eye. I feel like I'm losing it.

I just want my friend back.

I have this saying on a little plaque in my house,
and really is true.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope your pain eases soon.

I wish I had a good answer for you. Just reading about your heartbreak makes me cry. Heck, I cry every time I even think about losing one of my furbabies.

Give yourself time. Losing a pet is losing a part of your family and you deserve to (and need to) grieve. Everything will remind you of her for a while....even things that were not even remotely connected to her.

Thanks for giving her such a great life. You deserved her and she deserved you.
