After having surgery eight days ago, heating packs have been key for my recovery. Even if they don't actually "heal" me, the heat just helps me relax during pain flare ups. I have a rice sack as well as a gel pack, and both of them have worked wonders.

Billy,

I ordered the large Theratherm pad several weeks ago. Because I liked it so much, I ordered the shoulder/neck one you have asked about above and it arrived today. I'm hoping it helps calm down muscle spasms around the collar bone that are a little hard to get to with the large rectangle pad.

Lately, I've been wrapping my TOS arm in the large pad. The moist heat feature is great and has had an impact on reducing my arm pain. It automatically shuts off after 30 minutes. You can adjust the temperature but I haven't used this feature yet as the preset temp works fine for me.

I recieved the Theratherm neck and shoulder one. I love it because it gets so hot. A lot more then the Sunbeam store bought I laready had. I dont wear it around my neck, but use it to drape over shoulders or arm and hands. It is great.

I have several heating pads, but the I've found that the most effective thing for me is Thermacare 8 hour patches. The low continuous heat helps relieve my spasms much better than the higher heat of heating pads.

I stock up on Thermacare whenever Costco has coupons on them.

Billy -

I, too, like the Theratherm heating pads. It was worth the investment. The heat from the large heating pad really relieves my TOS arm pain. It is temporary but I'll continue using it until I go for surgery on this side. Marc suggested the Thermacare 8 hour pads and I use those for specific areas on the back/neck, too. However, these pads are so small that it wouldn't help my arm pain. So, the trick is figuring out what works best for you and your situation.
