The only thing I can think of is due to the EDS they just keep popping up very easily...
can you take a friend or family member to learn how to drop them down for you, so you don't have to keep going & paying for adjusting. I think my chiro would have showed dh or a friend how to do it if it was something I needed very often or ongoing... Mine popped up a few times after the extreme spasm episode, but stayed down for the most part after spasms were gone & chiro readjusted those times. But I only have moderate hyper mobility, EDS is a whole other complicating factor...for you.. ![]() I can now feel when mine start to go up and stop doing whatever it is if I can. I can also get then to relax and drop back with rest, if I rest those muscles that are pulling , then they go back down. In Sept 2011 decided to see how long I could go without any chiro/adjusting/PT and so far I've been doing OK on my own with home stuff. I had been going monthly since 2005. Just thought I'd try and see how I did on my own for awhile..

MsPenny,
I do not have scalene hypertrophy. My rib cage was twisted with multiple subluxations and torsions. I'm not sure if our situations are the same as it seems like you are hypermobile while I am hypomobile. Quote:

wow its amazing youre typing at all, congratz. that must be a good sign.
so you can move your ribs around more easily, like t-spine? i would assume its too soon post op to really tell. and then eventually maybe you can get your entire rib cage to be more symmetrical with exercise since it's unstuck? the thing about scalenes/scm is they CAN get aggravated but it's because the ribs are jacked up. that's my experience, not the other way around. good to know im not aloen

My therapist, Dr. Ando checks and adjust my ribs and spine. There are also modalities they have me do on a soft foam roll and yamuna balls. I'll restart therapy once my post-surgery pain has gone away.
I don't have a soft foam roll at home, just a hard one. After working with Ando, forum member JKL came up with the idea of wrapping a yoga mat around our hard foam rolls. I may try this or a may just buy a soft one. I'm only doing the rib stuff at therapy for the time being. I'm thinking once Dr. Ando gets me fully aligned, I can maintain by just doing the foam rolls and yamuna at home. They don't want me doing any weight stuff until my ribs, joints, and nerves are properly aligned and stretched. http://www.andoaston.com/about http://www.andoaston.com/well_bodyrolling http://www.yamunabodyrolling.com/ I wish I knew what caused my ribs to elevate in the first place. I had a car accident in 2005 and that may have been the origination of the rib subluxations. I had another accident in 2010 which really flared my TOS and cervical neuralgia. I'm starting to believe my ribs led to all my other issues including my forward head posture (corrected by cervical fusion surgery). My posture improved noticeably immediately after my rib resection surgeries when I look in the mirror and when I do my postural stretch/test: Quote:

www.protherapysupplies.com/ it was $ 35 they offer free shipping or www.optp.com/ is the manufacturer, but no free shipping. I just received it Friday and have used it 3 times,it is much better. Also you can use a small weight ball with sand in it instead,I bought a box with two of these and a large pilates ball at Ross Dress For Less. you just have to move it around more. i also bought from Dr. Ando's office: a Karate belt for scalene side neck streches and a ball on a stick for trigger pt massage. They really do help! JKL |
