Default Surgery update

Well today was the day! The waiting is over... My daughter had surgery @ 930 & it took 2 hours. Removed 1st rib had some adhesions to clean up & released pec minor(?). She is in some pain. When they moved her to her bed in her room it caused some pain. Also, blowing in that little machine is the pits!!!! We'll see how we are tomorrow! Thank you to everyone that has held my hand up until this point! You all are awesome! It was so nice knowing what to expect today. You all are the best! Dr pearl is amazing just like you said. Ill report more later! Thanks for the prayers!

So she had a pretty good night but this morning had slight fever & throwing up. They removed her IV & pain pump. She hasn't been doing her breathing thing because it hurts to take big breathes but they really talked to her this morning about the consequences. I don't think that we will be leaving today. But that's ok I just want her pain to be under control & that seems to be the issue right now. Thanks for your encouraging words!

Will update more later.

It took a couple of days before I made my first walk. I am glad the pain is uner control. It will get better. Remember the first week is by far the worst. Actually is was only about 5 days but everyone is different. Will you be traveling tomorrow?

No, they told us when I made appointment that we have to stay in Dallas till Saturday so we are staying in a hotel here. Dr pearl hasn't been in yet but everyone is indicating that we will be leaving today. I can't imagine how much pain you were in traveling by plane & then another drive from there! You are very tough! How are you feeling now? Do you have a checkup scheduled?thsnjs for everything!!!

Your stay sounds similar to mine. We spent two nights at Baylor and one at a nearby hotel. I was in considerable pain the night at the hotel and we really questioned the wisdom in leaving the next day. In fact we had resigned to the fact that we may have to stay longer before traveling. However I felt better the next morning so we went for it and made it home. It was a one day reprieve as I was in severe pain again the next few days. I really think prayer from our friends got us home that day as I am not tough.

I am doing much better. My biggest problem is I want to be more active and I keep doing things I am not ready to do resulting in delayed pain flare ups. However they resolve in a day or two and I am back to feeling better.

I know tonight and tomorrow could be rough for your daughter. I will keep the two of you in my prayers.

Well, Dr Warren came by this morning and asked how we were doing.
She said Dr Pearl would be by later. He did call later and release us. Yesterday when he came by he assured me that he would be sending us home with Percocet since she is allergic to everything else they tried....yet today on the phone he tried to tell me that he was prescribing ibuprofen?!!! I finally got him to agree to Percocet, but there was an isssue because he was on his way out of town. And that has to be done by the doctor in triplicate and hand delivered to pharmacy. The nurse even aruged with me about it...I finally said that we weren't leaving with out that prescribtion...ibuprofen didn't help her pain before, I can't imagine that it would help now! But he only wrote it for 3 days worth of pills with no refill. Will she be that much better in three days. I'm really worried. I'm sure it will all work out! He also said he would see her in two months after she finishes p/t, but on the discharge papers it says 2 weeks!!! I was really upset about the lack of communication. Don't get me wrong, I liked him alot and his staff seemed really good, but I would be told one thing by him and another by the nurses. Very frustrating. We are glad to be home. Maybe we will rest better. He did tell us that we could come back home tonight, that we didn't have to stay the extra night in Dallas, which is strange because when I called to make the appointment, that's what I was told. My daughter wanted to come home instead of staying at the hotel, so we did.

Ok, here are some questions for you all. She is having lots of pain in her neck and back. I know that's normal from what I have read. Before the surgery she could lift her arm fine, but now is in lots of pain. Is that normal? I know it's only the second day after surgery, but I was just wondering.

Thanks for all the prayers. I know it will be better....just one day at a time.

Talk to you soon
