Yes, I heard this on the news this am. Seems that while Darvon/Darvocet is extremely addictive, it's pain relieving qualities are poor.

You should have heard me cursing at the TV.

Sounds to me like we'll just have more od's on the stronger Percocet and Vicodin if they pass this.

Is there anything else comparable to Darvoset? I can't take Codene, it makes me sick.

Can you take Ultram, Billy ?

That is the "closest" on the weak prescription pain med scale with codeine in Tyl#3

The next ones further up the narcotic scale are Vicodin (hydrocodone) and Percocet (oxycodone)

I'm not sure but I wouldn't want to go to stronger meds.

I don't think they will ban it. it does me pretty good. I can think and drive if I have to when I take a Darvon 65. I never wanted any narcotic but my doctor -- four years later -- demanded I chose one.

When I would be referred to pain management, they always offered me anything I wanted. One said, "Pick 2, ma'am. I'll write any 2 you pick" scared me... and that was just for pain pills. I refused 3 different pain management doctors plea to take something. Then when I found my TOS surgeon (Dr. Atasoy) -- four years later -- also demanded I take something. It was really overdue. When you find yourself in this type of situation, I've come to realize not taking meds, if needed, is worse than taking them in moderation. TOS is why they make painkillers

Oh. and reading the posts about pec minor syndrome, I definitely have that. My armpit would throb and ache, hot too.

Default thanks (broken wings)

Hi,
I just wanted to comment on the excellent post you have just put up. It is VITALLY important tht people in pain understand that there are pain killers for a reason. As an oncology nurse pain treatment was my specialty. I loved my job and miss it dearly.....however, I saw people in agony not taking pain because their family told them they would get addicted to morphine and pain pills are evil and bad.

This MYTH must be addressed. Pain pill taken by people with pain are totally necessary and legitimate usage of the drug. If you are in pain you will not get "addicted" to the drug but your body will become accustomed to the medication in your system and you need to come off the med slowly with a doctors help so you can best avoid withdrawal symptoms.

There are so many people afraid of these drugs as the government pumps you so full of anti drug this and that, that people believe drugs are bad when you NEEd them!!!!

(Broken Wings) your story is so sad to me to know you suffered for so long with nothing to help ease your pain. It brings tears to my eyes. the docs probably offered u a couple of different drugs as our systems are so different that we need to take drugs that work effectively with our own body. the body is a funny thing is it not!!

thank you for sharing your story and enlightening us on your own enlightenment to the world of pain medications. There are a lot of meds that will work in a similar way with a different composition so it is important to consider different options.

love and hugs,
Victoria

Post Lilly

sold this patent off. If they had retained it, there might be a chance. They certainly didn't want it anymore! Lilly has a lot of clout (less since Bush left--since Bushes had heavy interest in the company) and may have pulled it off.

Studies have shown that it is the Tylenol part of Darvocet that
provides the pain relief. The Darvon part is just very addictive.

Many elderly patients get hooked on this, and it contributes to accidents in the home and fatal falls/hip injuries.
