Hi All,

Does anyone take any type of anti-inflamatory? I ask because I had a bad flare over the weekend and went into the emergency room and was given Toradol i.v. They asked if I took an anti- inflamatory regularly and I don't, other than what is in the Norco.

I asked my PCP about the Toradol, and he wasn't excited about giving it to me as he didn't have any pt.'s on it and wasn't "well versed" in it.

So, I decided to ask around the forums and see what others are up to and get back to him with what they do. ( Can you believe it has come to this!?!)

In the past year - i have taken Diclofenac Sodium (voltaren XR?) - thats a NSAID - so you can only take painkillers w/ acetimenophen (sp?) with it. It worked alright. I've also been on several methlyprednisone/Medrol dose packs - thats a steroid, and it helped well for a week or 2. However, the problem is that it can lower your immune system - I had a cyst flare up that required surgical removal after i was on that.

I used Toradol for almost a year. The Doc said it was fairly strong. But I had no luck with it. It really did nothing for me that plain advil couldn't do. You can't take any advil with it because your stomach could bleed. That's all I know. Hope it helps.
PS...I stayed on it for a year because I was being stubborn about taking any meds. When it got to the point I could no longer stand the pain and nothing I was taking would work, my doc gave me demerol. I didn't want to take any meds long term, I only wanted something to take the edge off when I couldn't stand it any longer. He said my only other option for pain relief was meds I would have to take daily. At this point this is working for me, there are days demerol does nothing, but as long as I still still function I would rather not do long term meds. There will probably come a day when I will have no choice, but for now I survive.

I swallow a lot of voltaren (diclofenac) - this is the "one and only" med our doctors give for everything: headaches, TOS pain, shoulder pain, back pain, knee pain, etc etc Sometimes, I take a "stomac-protection" meds (pariet, pantoloc,..) before taking the voltaren.

In general, I only take meds when the pain is very intens, and I don`t know, if one can take f.i. voltaren constantly.

Grom, I use Toradol sparingly for flares as they will only fill 20 tablets in 90 days. De uses Sulandac I think it is called, maybe 200 mg. I will later when I pick up her refills.

She has Soma also, and Baclofen.

For me I use Valium, topamax, 75 mg, and lidoderm patches. My hot tob, ice or heat, I have percocet, or oxycodone 5/325......

Anyone tried mangosteen? I believe it is a south asian fruit with anti inflammatory properties. Traditional homeopathic remedy.

I don't take much in the way of NSAIDS b/c I am still nursing. You just need too much on too long of a basis for me. Fruit seemed like a safe alternative to explore....

Generally it is just vicadin 5-500 for me.

I have a friend who takes mangosteen - she swears by it (but she does not have TOS).

I take Diclofenac also - it's the generic for Arthrotec 75mg (This already has a stomach protectant in it). Arthrotec/Diclofenac is my first line of defense and usually will prevent a serious flare. Diclofenac does NOT have a stomach protectant, but since I already take Nexxium, it's OK for me. One side effect: diarrhea. I credit that for my consistant weight loss. Be sure to take this med with food - or you will be sorry!!!

When the NSAID does not help I use valium (if it's nerve pain or muscle spasms) or Percocet 5/325 (if it's bone pain).

Now I have some med.'s to ask my Dr. about!! I can't help but wonder why an anti-inflammatory isn't part of my meds. It seems like it should/could help.

I take low-dose prednisone as my anti-inflamatory. I take 5mg on most days, but I can take up to 10mg on a bad day.

It helps a LOT.

Steroids do have a lot of potential side effects, but most of them occur at higher doses... and in my opinion, the side effects and risks from other anti-inflamatories are a lot worse and occur a lot more often than the risks and side effects from steroids.

Celebrex Is Your Best Bet If You Can Take It.....i Get Shots Of Toradol When I See My Ortho Every Month....it Helps. Well, I Did Not Get It This Month, Because It's Not Good To Get It Every Month...and When Prescribed, Toradol Is Only Given For Like A Week...it's Not A Daily Thing Like Celebrex.....love Ya!!!!!!
