Hello everyone.
I have a long history of concussions and PCS. Three years ago I had an accident that brought on pretty severe PCS that slowly improved to a point in where I found acceptance. I still have occasional dizziness and fatigue. 3 weeks ago I bumped my head on a kitchen drawer, nothing terrible but possibly enough to trigger PCS since my threshold is really low. My main symptom is nausea that only eases for perhaps 1/2 day before coming back with the old rigor. I had nausea before with my concussions, especially with the last onset, what is different now is that the nausea seems to affect my stomach and digestion system far more. In the begin of the nausea there was some mild diarrhea, and in the interim my stomach and digestion system constantly gurgles alongside some discomfort and pain. There is very little tolerance to eat at the moment. Are these symptoms similar with what you experienced with your onset? there is a possibility that the current ordeal relates to food poisoning or virus sine I was traveling that time and ate in some 'questionable' food. |

oh, I should also add that my mouth is dry as well with the nausea.
If nothing improves here soon I may consider HBO (hyperbaric Treatment) I think to catch the treatment at an early stage of a new onset may be more beneficial. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated too. Thanks in advance! |

arb,
Have you had any upper back trouble? There are some minor back injuries that can cause nausea like you mention. Years ago, I injured my back splitting firewood and it messed up my GI system for weeks. When you hit your head on the drawer, you may have also twisted your back in response. I was not highly symptomatic from the back injury. Lust a little stiff. A chiropractic or Physical Therapist may be helpful. Also, are you taking any SSRI meds? They can cause intermittent nausea. Mine do. You might also try a probiotic/prebiotic program to get your GI into proper function.

I lost 14 pounds over two weeks. As I said, I was not in pain, just a little stiff. T-5, T-6, T-7, and T-8 all have nerves that go to the gastric system. Minor inflammation can cause gastric upset. The problem can be as simple as age related disk compression. As we age, the disks compress and the gaps the nerves go through can narrow. This is called foraminal stenosis or narrowing. Manipulation of the vertebra and exercises to mobilize them with possible use of anti-inflamatory meds or icing can be beneficial.
In my case, a chiropractor ran his thumbs down my back and found a vertebra and associated rib that were out of place. He gently reduced this problem and my nausea and other problems resolved within hours. The first sign was feeling my GI tract start to move properly.

Hi Arb,
I have had PCS for 7 months, and I can't remember a day I've had without nausea. I'm constantly sick and the meds for nausea do more harm than good for me. That is really the only symptom my docs haven't been able to help me with. I do have a disc herniation at C-4,5. Maybe that has something to do with it. I'm only now finding this out, and beginning treatment for it next week. I'll keep you posted if I get some relief from my nausea. Please do the same. Welcome, but sorry you have to find your self here.

Hi.
The nausea can makes you squirry after a while and I'm sorry you're going through this. My nausea is worse in the a.m. I will say that I discovered, by accident, that a fresh, ripe mango really helps with the nausea. I looked this up on line, and found that in countries where mangos grow, women use it for morning sickness. Also, there is a product that sell on line or in Whole foods called "Ginger Wonder". It is not medication (you can put it on ice cream) and it is basically ginger extract and honey. It's fairly expensive but it got me through a lot of days. Hope you are feeling better. |
