Hi all,
My concussion was 4 months ago. After a nice break from symptoms just recently they are all back again with a vengeance. I'm thinking about seeing a neurologist to see if they can offer any help/advice... What are your experiences of neurologists? Was it worthwhile seeing one, were they able to help in any way? I'm not sure whether to just carry on with the hope that it will eventually sort itself out or whether I should seek further help. Going from what I've experienced so far (with doctors) can't say I have much confidence in the medical profession when it comes to PCS ...... Cheers, Jane |

Jane,
You have the right idea about neurologists and concussion. Hopefully, vini will see this post. He might suggest a group called "Headway" or something like that. It is UK based. Look though vini's posts for the past few months and you might find some UK references.

I worked for a group called OrthoNeuro meaning it was a large group of both orthopods with all diff kinds of specialties (ie spine, shoulders, knees, feet/ankles, etc) and neurologists. I have never worked for better doctors. The neurologists took their time and spent ample time in the room with their patients building a strong relationship and rapport. They were thorough and thought outside the box. However, with me saying that, I have also seen some neurologists who are the exact opposite. Maybe a 'good' neurologist would be of some help. Hope you find relief!

I found it helpful just because it helped me to know that there wasn't a deeper problem. That was the very important mental help, but it did not actually help me get better.

I think it's worth it. They have a vast amount of knowledge and experience with the brain. I figure that is worth something. I don't follow a doctor without thinking, but they are worth something and can be very helpful. They are not always useless or bad.
I told mine very frankly that I was there to talk and didn't mean to demean her but didn't expect her to do any miracles. I used her to talk out the healing process and make sure I was on track in my undersatnding of what I have to do for myself. It was a $20 copay and there's someone now looking out for me. She did prescribe prednizone for me (amazingly helpful) and give me some peace of mind that everything I'm going through has been "normal" so far. It's been worth it for me. |
