omg -- i am hitting the one year mark tomorrow and i'm so upset. I just can't believe how much my life has changed.
I can't drive far...get exhausted and headache grocery shopping is awful...feel like crap when I get back computer ...limited tv...limited reading ...exhausting being with friends...pain in head talking too much...makes head hurt too exhausted from everything! I'm so sick of my life like this. I'm a mom...I need to get better fast..or faster! My husband says i'm miles from where I was a year ago, but I still feel so much like crap that I can't stand it!! And...my neurologist says its anxiety! Well...newsflash if I didn't have the symptoms I wouldn't have the anxiety!!!!! He told me its "an underlying anxiety that has manifested itself" and thats why the post concussive symptoms are so bad...get the anxiety under control! I just needed to rant! sorry guys! when will it get better???? |

I feel like I have to say this. It may never get better or it might get better but never go totally away. Unfortunately some of us have to learn how to live with permanent problems from TBI.
I have no problem saying that on many days I absolutely HATE my life with TBI. But I know getting upset does not make it any better; usually makes it worse. So I just have to live moment to moment (that's how frequently symptoms change for me).

I'm thinking that when you meet with your neurologist next time, you need to realize that there are TWO people in that room with brain damage. Seriously, maybe you need to find someone that specializes in TBI and they'll have a better understanding of your problems.
Are you taking any kind of anti-anxiety meds? My hubby is taking Zoloft (after kicking and screaming for months that he WOULDN'T). It has helped his headaches and the "fog". Hang in there! Peace and grace to you... Amy |

I don't have any "fog" ...anymore. I just get this constant feeling of being overstimulated...back of head hurts..then the top. Everything I do brings it on.
I'm just so sick of it. I;ve been seeing a counselor who is helping a bit. The neurologist is a concussion specialist. Concussion is one of his specialties. Imagine that!!! |

I feel the same way but I do try not to dwell on it. Some days are easier than others. I find that having a small child makes it all 10 times worse. Her voice is shrill. It just is, even when she is not trying to. When she is away I feel so much better just from the lack of noise alone. All in all, i'm recovering and I see you are too. Hang in there. I figure as long as you are getting better... even if the steps are too small to measure in days or weeks and you can only measure in months, you are still getting better and it will continue to happen.

freezerdoor...I agree...small progress is better than none.
Get earplugs..the musician type..they helped me a lot (www.etymotic.com) I was even able to go to a noisy restaurant this weekend with my daughter, her 2 college roomates, husband and 2 sons! Imagine that!! |
