Was in an accident in July of this year. Struck from behind while sitting still waiting for traffic to move. 11 staples and a subdural hematoma later...here I sit. Still not allowed to drive. Still having issues sleeping. Still mixing up my words and having trouble typing. When will things be normal again?
I know that all things considered I was really lucky. I was surrounded by friends (emergency service workers) very quickly and taken to the hospital. I was wearing my seat belt, but the guy hit me so hard it threw me into the back seat. Regular bumps and bruises, but I want to be me again. |

You are very early in the healing process. It is going to take some time. Your greatest need right now is to avoid stress and anxiety.
Yes, you want to be normal but you suffered a life threatening injury. Count your blessings slowly and in small increments. Each little improvement is important. They will slowly add up to big improvements. Take it slow. My best to you.

Thank you Mark! I haven't been back here in days. Was a little discouraged. Your post meant the world. I feel like I'm in isolation. I live with the hub, daughter, and grandson, but I feel so alone.
Went to my first TBI survivor meeting this week and I was not glad to hear, but relieved to hear someone else say they had the same feelings. |

Yeah, July is not that long ago. My injury was in January and much less severe/dramatic than yours. I only began to be mildly functional after 6 months. Now I think I'm at about 75-80% (but also take into account that I'm on medication).

thanks all...I guess the fact that I have zero patience probably doesn't help the situation. I was in an accident in my teens, but had a blow to the front of the head-had no complications other than a nifty scar and some sensitivity to light and noise few a few months. This has been a whole new journey and I don't like it.
I am aware however, that I am very very lucky to still be here and that the injuries could have been much more severe. Have a great weekend. |
