I thought it would be a good idea to list the things i learned i shouldnt have done while recovering from my brain injury. Maybe it will give you all a laugh at how a nurse is the worst patient! And what not to do!! haha
1. Checking myself out of the hospital the day i was admitted and 5 hours after i gained consciousnes! 2. Driving myself to the doctors the day after my accident while i was hallucinating and seeing bugs and everything was green in my visual field. Definetly stopped driving for 2 weeks after that. 3. Going back to work 3 weeks after accident for 3 shifts and realizing i was way too sick to be there. 4. Thinking i was well enough to attend my 30th birthday festivities in Las Vegas. Stimulation capital of the world!! Only 4 weeks after my brain injury. That was a rough, exhausting, and painful trip! At least i was with 3 nurses who knew how sick i was and left with me from situations that made my symptoms worse 5. Visiting my best friend in San Francisco and biking the golden gate bridge to Sausalito after doing no major physical activity for a few months. 2 and a half months after accident. THought my head was gonna explode! 6. Going back to work at my 3 month mark with only 1 week of no headaches but still dizzy and fatigued. Lasted 2 months at work before symptoms became too unbearable. 7. Visiting my friend in Florida at my 4 and half month mark and spending 2 days in Disney World with her and her 2 year old. Tried riding on the carousel which immediately made me dizzy and headaches. Again....stimulation overload. 8. 2 weeks ago trying to watch 2 diff football games and a baseball playoff game with 5 diff tv's in front of me. Could barely move later that night from the stimulation overload.

Suffered a TBI with PCS on April 25th 2011 from multiple blows to the head from falling, unconscious for 12 hours with no memory of event. Hit the back of my head, and above right eye. MRI and CT negative. Symptoms included constant headaches (migraine, pressure, tension, icepicks), dizziness, tinnitus, visual changes, photophobia, fatigue, "spacing out", word finding difficulties, depression, and emotional lability. Began Healing in November 2011 after starting acupuncture and Healing Touch (a nurturing energy therapy that promotes relaxation and pain relief). I went back to work in February 2012. Ive been symptom free since July 2012. Very happy, positive, energetic and working out every day, doing yoga, and living a normal life again! I also began taking Healing Touch classes in November 2011 and completed 5 Levels of Healing Touch Certificate Program that included a 1 year mentorship to become a Healing Touch International Practitioner in June 2013. I am so pleased to offer this wonderful healing therapy to my patients, friends, and clients. |
