Hey board
![]() I only ever had 2 concussions in my life and both are due to boxing. I have never been knocked out (only dazed/seeing "stars") Both of these concussions happened between a month. 2 days ago I got punched a couple of times (Not hard) And i became to feel dizzy/dazed for a moment. Thats as far as it went and it was over. As i was driving home i felt a numb headache coming on and thankfully it wasnt full blown. I went to sleep thinking everything was going to be alright like the first time. The following day I didn't feel like myself at all! I had sensitivity to light, my speech was slurred in conversations (sometimes i was repeating what i had just said) My libido and enthusiasm is always on the sky rocket but these past two days i feel depressed, almost like im a whole different person, no personality at all. I also keep forgetting things quick. Can anyone please help? |

Suffered a TBI with PCS on April 25th 2011 from multiple blows to the head from falling, unconscious for 12 hours with no memory of event. Hit the back of my head, and above right eye. MRI and CT negative. Symptoms included constant headaches (migraine, pressure, tension, icepicks), dizziness, tinnitus, visual changes, photophobia, fatigue, "spacing out", word finding difficulties, depression, and emotional lability. Began Healing in November 2011 after starting acupuncture and Healing Touch (a nurturing energy therapy that promotes relaxation and pain relief). I went back to work in February 2012. Ive been symptom free since July 2012. Very happy, positive, energetic and working out every day, doing yoga, and living a normal life again! I also began taking Healing Touch classes in November 2011 and completed 5 Levels of Healing Touch Certificate Program that included a 1 year mentorship to become a Healing Touch International Practitioner in June 2013. I am so pleased to offer this wonderful healing therapy to my patients, friends, and clients. |

I second Nightnurse's comments.
I have had two less severe concussions before that were work related. Both had some minor symptoms that resolved within 5 days. This year I was in a car accident, and directly after started feeling nauseous. I went to the ER to get checked out and they diagnosed a concussion. As the next week went on I developed new symptoms and spiraled downwards from there. I would get it checked out. Directly after my accident, I didn't think it was a big deal and I'd be fine after a day or two. It was my bf who pushed me to go to the ER. It's now 7 months later and I'm still dealing with symptoms. Further, previous head trauma leads your brain to be more likely to experience concussion like symptoms when you reinjure your brain, even if the injury seems like a minor one. Cummulative brain trauma makes recovery longer and harder each time. Boxing is dangerous for your already injured brain. It may be something to think about. Definitely get your brain checked out! A poorly functioning brain really damages all other parts of your life! |

You have had far more than two concussions. The simple nature of boxing is to give the other guy multiple concussions and see whose brain gives out first.
This event is your brain saying, " I've had enough. Stop this insanity." Yes, get examined, including a CT. Stop driving until your symptoms are all resolved. You need to read up on the damage caused by sub-concussive impacts. Your brain has been injured by the repeated sub-concussive impacts. You may feel like you have recovered from your past bouts but your brain has been accumulating minor injuries that will never go away. You have likely reached the point of using up the reserve capacity of your brain. Further hits will cause increasing levels of PCS symptoms. I hope this wake-up call has caused you to consider the rest of your life.

Boxers box until the ref says they have suffered a concussion. But, the brain suffers concussion damage long before it becomes evident to the ref. The dazed concussion is a few levels worse than a minor concussion. Plus, the cumulative injury from multiple impacts (sub-concussive impacts) can easily cause a concussion without the outwardly visible sings that a ref might notice.
The current problem with contact sports is the athletes want to continue playing and often can hide the concussion. Boxers often can back off and gone on the defense for a bit to get their wits back. This is so they can let their head clear. Just because their head cleared in 10 to 20 seconds does not mean they did not suffer a concussion. They do not need to be staggered by the blow for it to be a concussion. btw, I have suffered at least 14 concussions. Only 4 were obvious to others. Sometimes, the only symptom of the concussion is a strange taste in the mouth. This taste is often metallic like you are chewing aluminum foil. This is due to the taste processing neurons and/or connecting axons being traumatized. Or, momentarily going cross-eyed, for just a few seconds. There are other symptoms that will not be obvious to others and often disregarded by the person suffering the concussion.

Thanks for your replies guys. I decided to get a CT scan today and everything came back normal. They only advised me to take a rest from any type of exercise for a couple of weeks. I felt exhausted and fog minded for the past couple of days and tried to rest even though my sleep schedule seems to be drastically changed.
I've noticed my libido and enthusiasm went from sky rocket to nothing ever since my last concussion. I was wondering if I will recover from this like I was before. I can deal with the other symptoms but these are the ones that absolutely get to me. |

Redglove93,
Your posts have been hard to understand. What symptoms are you experiencing beside some fogginess and exhaustion? Are you taking any medicines? What is your daily schedule like? How old are you? We need better information to be able to help you or give you the support you need.

Do concussions affect my testosterone levels? My libido has went really low and it used to be really high, i dont have any motivation or interest like i used to. Im 22 and my schedule is always compressed (Training everyday, part time school/job) Im going to be taking it slow for the next 2 weeks or so if i feel any better is there a possibility I can regain my old self back? |
