Hello,
About 2 months ago I hit my head, and the day after I got severe binocular double vision even though my eye muscles were working perfect together. The day after that my vision got a lot better but weirdly, I had monocular double vision ghosting (separately in each eye) which was worse in my right eye. This still hasn't gone away, and I think it has gotten worse. My eye muscles still work good together (I've been to several doctors) and there is nothing wrong with my eyes (I've been to two opthamologists). When I stare at things for a long time they seem to split, or become completely double but again my eyes are still looking in the right direction so I don't know what would be causing this!! I thought vision problems associated with concussions meant the eye muscles aren't working together. Has anyone had vision problems during PCS that originated in your brain, like not a nerve palsy or something wrong with your eyes? I also have extreme light sensitivity, the ghosting is worse in low light, it seems to be worse in the morning but never goes away, and when I look at scenery or just into the distance in general everything looks a little funny like I'm straining my eyes or something. Let me know if anybody has had a similar experience or any incite! Thanks. |

A big task for the brain is stitching the images from each eye together so they appear as one image. This is not a eye muscle issue but a visual processing issue.
Have you been seen by a neuro-ophthalmologist? Have you been seen by a neurologist? What happens when you close one eye and just use the other? Visual issues have been discussed here. Do a search for visual therapy and you will find some thread about it.

I have vision issues and lately I have been finding more and more things which helps. I have some of the symptoms you have - looking at distance weird vision, grocery stores/malls are horrible, driving some what ok, hallways are not ok. I even starting to think my vision is what causing majority of the symptoms. I have been suffering about 2.5 years and of course no Neurologists, Ophthalmologists has a clue about this which is surprising. All my normal tests for vision comes out fine though.
I have been doing vision therapy (once a week) and sure get some relief but doesn't stay long. I still think with right prism lenses I can see some improvement. There is only one specialist in Birmingham has good experience in treating TBI/PCS patients and no one knows what lenses she uses. I hope I can make that flight which I am still not ready. http://www.visionspecialistsofbirmingham.com/ Best. |

Do you know if you've had a Vision Efficiency Evaluation? That is different from a medical eye exam.
I found the doctor who did mine (and then followed up with vision therapy) from a referral on this website: http://www.braininjuries.org/

I haven't been seen by a neurologist or anything like that because I was hoping it would go away on it's own soon enough. Also because I've read so many things about how there isn't really anything you can do about it. Eowyn, no I haven't had that. Has your vision therapy helped? I don't know if I should do that or not. I'm in college so getting to all these appointments and things is a struggle.

You need to find someone who can evaluate you to refer you to the proper therapist or doctor.
Does your school have a health clinic? The vision issues are treatable in most cases. It is the lingering PCS issues like head aches, light and noise sensitivity and memory/cognitive problems that often just take time.

I had trouble like that but not as extreme and yes, a neuro opthamologist was able to help me. Find someone that works regularly with stroke or TBI patients. I assume they all do but that's the type you want to see. Good luck.

I have had a lot of vision trouble. Mine however seems to originate from problems in my brain. I see shadows where there aren't any. Or lightning like things flash in front of me, or things have a glowing aura around them. My night vision is also a lot worse. Sounds like you should get an eye exam?

For those that did get help did you do vision therapy? Or what did you do. I have emailed my eye doctor to ask them if they do Vision Efficiency Evaluations there.

I had ten weeks of vision therapy. That was all my insurance would pay for. It did help a lot with visual tasks such as reading, computer work, and driving. My headaches triggered by these activities decreased a lot.
