Check out this other thread where we vented out about our stomach issues:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread164430-2.html Amitryptline affected my stomach and made me very hard to quit and still suffer from its effects. Some of us has sensitive stomachs. SSRIs/Tricyclics affects the serotonin level in the stomach too. Now I deal with stomach issues (besides PCS) all day/everyday.

I frequently get a paralytic ileum. The intestines stop moving. My physical therapist can help get it moving again by working on my neck and upper back (TOS). When I am symptomatic in this area, my movements are like deer droppings. Very annoying.
Another issue that can effect women is hormones out of balance. One of the female hormones ( I forget which) causes the intestines to slow down. This is during the fertile part of the cycle. A good hormone assessment may help. Check out https://www.womensinternational.com/..._referral.html to find a specialist in your area. Many generic doctor (gyne, internists, etc) use to broad a range of hormone levels to help with this. A specialist is better. My best to you.

I have been on Nortriptyline which is similiar to Amytriptyline. Yes it causes constipation in me and after having bowel surgery, I'm very sensitive to not messing up the works again, so I've found my fix.
How's your fiber intake? For me (48yo male, except for head injury, otherwise healthy) I intake about 40-45 grams of fiber a day, preferably fruits, vegis, whole grains, and if needed Metamucil 2x daily. I'm also drinking lots of water, decaffeinated green tea, zero coffee, cokes, dairy. Keep the fiber intake up and water consumption up. Mike

May 31, 2009: Concussion from syncope due to low blood volume resulting from severe dehydration. Occurred after finishing my 9th marathon. 100% of symptoms cleared by August 2009. December 15, 2009: Major surgery due to diverticulitis. 6 weeks after surgery, dizziness, fog, cognitive difficulty, anxiety, some panic, lots of headache. These symptoms largely gone, but still cannot exercise above a very low threshold otherwise resulting in severe headache and cognitive fog. Same for overwhelming odors. Meds: Nortriptyline and Naratriptan as needed to rid severe headaches (exertional migraines). |
