I went to the Drs today praying that he'd listen to me.
I took 2 pages full of symptoms I wrote out coz I didn't want to forget anything. I wanted a note to dismiss me from work a little longer. I got my note along with a new diagnosis. PTSD combined with PCS. I'm not sure if he's down playing the PCS or this is his way of saying its all psychological???? What do you think? In his note he wrote: Off work for now and will not be working in the near future....Man is my employer gonna be mad when I hand this to her tomorrow in our meeting! I wonder if this means I don't have a job now??? Yikes! What am I gonna do? Kelly

Your accident happened at work. You were assaulted by a patient. Aren't there any laws to protect you from being fired?? It doesn't make any sense that your boss would be upset with you.
In any case, you have a note from the doctor. And more important, you have to get better first. Believe me, I do know what you are going through. When I first got hurt, I thought I would be out of work for a couple of days. I had no idea what a brain injury meant. I was in pain and sick and worrying about my class. But your health is most important. No one can tell you how long it will take. You have to take care of yourself. And also find out if you have any job protection, because you were injured at work. I have PCS but my docs are all focusing on the psychological side of things. My TBI/PCS doc explained that hitting my head so many times can lead to bipolar, in my case bipolar I. It is confusing to me, frankly but I sure feel it. I am not sure how it happens but it does. Believe me bipolar is the last diagnosis I wanted. I tried to evade it, that doesn't work, it will wait and will catch you off guard if not treated.
My doc told me not to work but my job was pushing me to work and rather than stand up, I acquiesced and was working too much and not taking care of me enough and the wheels came off. Take heed, I am not sure what I will do for a job once I am processed out of my current job, I have to jump and hope that the net appears to catch me. |

If you feel a lawyer is necessary, by all means go for it. I did not in my case, and am wondering if I should have. I don't know a lot about law, but I would think you would definitely have a case against your employer due to the fact that you were not provided training to protect yourself physically? nor did anyone come to your aid for 15 MINUTES...it doesn't sound like you have security there either? You might as well protect yourself if you feel that you need it.
I am glad you found out your job is protected, though. I hope it all works out for you. Please keep us posted. ![]()
