So, I'm finally going for some cognitive evals Friday over one year after my injury! I'm know there have been previous post about neuropsych evals but I could find what I needed and by page 10 I started getting dizzy from scrolling. So I'm asking for some advice!
I'm going to a concussion clinic I'm not sure if its going to by a neuropsych eval or pre-eval. But I was told the testing was 4+ hours. I was hoping for some advice on what to expect what I should do. Thanks

Thier has been a thread not long ago covering this subject. You might try to search it. Same question in that thread. What I remember is that you should try to rest/ sleep well before and try to relax.
The test is not something to prepare for. If you are having a very symptomatic day thats OK to. I would expect other more informed posts to follow. Hope you feel better soon.

Jaystar,
Contrary to rmshaver, I don't think you need to rest up for your NeuroPsych Assessment. If your brain is a bit tired, you will demonstrate your cognitive condition as it is. This is not an assessment you are trying to pass or fail. You want the results to accurately show your condition. As you likely know, with PCS, we tend to roller coaster between good and bad days. You want a moderate to bad day for your assessment. 4 hours sounds like a decent battery of NPA tests. A pre-assessment would only take an hour or so. I am curious. What concussion clinic are you being seen at? What kind of treatments/therapies have they provided? Some concussion clinics appear to be about profits while a few appear to be truly interested in providing good information and treatment. The requirement by many schools of needing a doctor's clearance before allowing return to play has created a niche market for doctors to form concussion clinics. Don't worry about your NPA. Going to bed late and getting up early will enhance your brain's symptoms. There are tests within the tests that will validate the results. Being a bit tired should allow your brain to show consistent symptoms. Some of us need a few hours of effort before we start to crash and show symptoms. btw, I have had 2 NPA's 5 years apart. The results were almost exactly the same. My best to you.

Thank you For your responses. I am going to A Kessler Rehab center my Mother works there and is close with the doctors and staff which is why we chose to go there the doctors in the neuropsych departement are truely concerned about me and my condidtion since my Mother has explained to them a little of what's been going on
And I'm glad to hear that I do not necissarily need a good nights sleep before hand. Since my appointment is at 9am and I typically can't fall asleep until after 2 am and the place is an hour away. My concern is that as of now I am going by myself so I won't have a ride there or back home. I know I've seen somewhere on here before that people reccomend aa ride home as it can be very exhausting. Do I really need a ride home or could I be capable of driving myself?

Plan to take some time to get settled after the Assessment. But, get started home before rush hour traffic. Maybe you can find a park to go sit and listen to some soothing music. Think of the NPA like experiencing/observing a traumatic event. It can leave you exhausted.
