Hello everyone. I suffered from a mild concussion May 12th (4 months ago). During the day I have no signs Post Concussion Syndrome but the other night I tried stretching but became dizzy. How do I know whether this was because I am out-of-shape or not fully healed yet?

Gillotine,
Welcome to NeuroTalk. There is no way to tell for sure if it is from being out of shape. I do think it may have been too much movement for your head. A concussion can leave you very sensitive to movements and joint positions. You probably need to slowly ease back into movements that cause symptoms. Any head down movements can be a problem.

I feel your pain. I used to go to the gym 4 to 5 times a week. Had very good strength and stamina. Just had my first PT, OT eval. Therapist said my BP was too high to really do anything. It was 155/108 resting. Used to be about 124/85. Put on 15 pounds and gaining.

Everyone’s injury is different so it's hard to know if it’s from being out of shape or due to the injury. When I was in the hospital they had me do some exercise to restore some of my physical abilities under the watch of a therapist. This went OK, so they increased it, now I am able to exercise on the stationary bike or elliptical machine. I still get vertigo from looking up for too long or standing up too fast, so I’m just cognizant of my limitations and deal with it, and it hasn’t prevented me from exercising. My suggestion would be to try some low intensity exercise and see how you feel and work it up from there as long as you don’t experience the dizzy spells.

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition. Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. Last edited by Lightrail11; 09-21-2012 at 03:32 PM. |
