Ever since my head injury I've been having problems with being freezing cold almost all of the time, even in summer heat when everybody else is complaining of being too hot!
I have been spending most of my time wrapped in a blanket with a hot water bottle but I'm still shivering - it's like I'm cold to the core or something. The only exception is when I've had a nap or wake up in the morning...I tend to be overheated then and covered in sweat. I have a theory that it's due to inactivity...the fact that I just sit or lie in one position all day, does that sound right? Or is it something I should mention to my dr? I don't want to make him think I blame every symptom on the injury... ![]() |

Dependent on the injury, there could have been deep tissue trauma associated with the area around the 4th ventricle of the brain. That is the area of our thermastat.
Whether there is documentation of mild TBI injury involving this area, I am not sure, nor about the effects of varied shearing forces of trauma to this area, but it might be something your Neurologist could look into, dependent on your injuries. And, since you brought this up, it will give me something else to focus on with my ongoing researches on mTBI. |

Have any of you had thyroid blood work done? A malfunctioning thyroid can alter your metabolism and your body's temp regulating system.

Thanks for your replies.
My blood pressure is fine and I've had bloodwork done to check my thyroid and vitamin levels - all ok. Back from 2nd physio appt - physiotherapist thinks there's something quite wrong and is writing me a letter for a more urgent referral to a specialist. I'll be sure to mention the temperature thing this time. |

I'm sorry, my statement above should have also noted that it was the area of the Hypothalamus, which is the thermostat; so Mark's remarks for the endocrine problems are also true, as well as the tissue level change from any injury.

I'm eating a lot of protein these last couple of months. I used to seldom eat meat but now eat meat/fish & eggs 3-4 times per week + omega 3 type fats. Hopefully it might help, need to build myself up for winter. If I'm struggling with 12 degrees not sure how I'm going to cope when the frost comes
