Always Frantastic,
Welcome to NeuroTalk. I have never worried about brands. Instead, I look at the labels for the specific compound. Mag citrate and Calcium citrate are good forms of Mag and Calcium. Vitacost has this combo. Fish oil should have a good concentration of DHA/EPA. Have you suffered a concussion or is there another cause for your CNS fragility ? |

Is it safe if we take calcium+magnesium+vitamin D tablet and a vitamin D3 tablet separately . I have read its better to take D3 instead of just vitamin D. So that will be double dose of vitamin D and D3. Most brands have vitamin D along with cal+mag but not D3. I wonder if D3 taken separately will not result in overdose

You say " I recently went off of it and my GABA and Glutemate need to rebalance which could take months. " How do you know this ? Is there a blood test ?
Have you tried L-Tryptophan. L-Theanine or 5-HTP to help with your struggles? btw, It would be great if you would start a thread about this in the main forum. This discussion is getting off topic for this thread that is focused on concussion related vitamins and supplements. |

My thread didn't get attention, so I will add my question here again.
Based on this link, I discovered some new substances that have possibly a good effect on brain healing. http://www.wellnessresources.com/hea...tes_take_note/ I'm talking about adding those substances to the regimen(mentioned by mark in Idaho) in form of pills 1) hyaluronic acid - which should be enough absorbed when a person eats enough fruits. So pills should not be necessary I guess? 2) glucosamine 3) bromelain 4) R-alpha lipoic acid - transforms into EPA inside the body. When a person already takes Omega 3 pills, it should not be necessary I guess? Are there any other benefits to add this substance? 5) quercetin 6) resveratrol - found especially in red vine, but it highers the blood flow to the brain, waht is probably not ideal when recovering from a concussion? 7) grape seed extract |

Griffin,
I've tried to read Byron Richard's article but struggle to make sense of it. Personally, I don't put a lot of credence in articles written by someone who also sell the products they write about. Just my way of looking at things. So, I don't have a comment except to say, I tried Resveratrol and did not find any benefit. It is pricey. |

I didn't know that he is selling these substances. I thought he is just a scientist.
Reservatrol is indeed (too) expensive. I decided to go without it. Mark, I thought you were probably the user that knows the most about these substances(even without taking them). Don't you know something more about them? Grape seed extract is the strongest anti oxidant in the world, the question is if you need it when you already take vitamin e. Same thing applies to ALA. I don't know a lot about the others especially 2),3) and 5) |

ALA (alpha lipoic acid) shares the SAME abbreviation as alpha linolenic acid--this latter which is an essential Omega-3 fatty acid. Alpha linolenic acid (also called ALA) is metabolized eventually to EPA and DHA. Lipoic acid is NOT. This is a common mix up because of the abbreviations being the same. This is what lipoic acid is for: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipoic_acid So the comment #4 is an error. R-lipoic acid does NOT replace fish oil therefore.

MrsD, thanks for clearing this up. I didn't notice that there are two different substances.
