In January 2012, I had a fall and suffered a head injury. Whilst I have had visits to my family doctor (GP). He has been reluctant to suggest any treatment or therapy until I have been assessed by a specialist.
Last year was so frustrating being off work with an idea what was wrong but without a formal diagnosis. After over a year of my GP writting letters out of the blue an appointment arrived to see a Neurologist. The name of the Neuro was not on the local hospital panel so I googled his details. A rather eminent Neurologist whom has published many papers, head of the practice in one the UK's top Brain and Neurological hospital. So far so good. After reading my notes and a brief chat he came straight to the point – you’ve obviously had a head injury and suffering from the post -concussion effects. He went on to say that the CT scan was clear and that whilst he could order other scans it will only confirm much the same. Since I had been making good progress over the year he wouldn’t suggest any medication – just carry on with what I was doing and give it another 6 months off work. Although quite a simple diagnosis I am quite pleased that it wasn’t a battle and the Neuro could see the injury was genuine and not linked to depression.

LOL!
I'm very very glad for you! Always nice to read a positive doctoring account, especially when so many of us end up with awful experiences! Wishing you continued successes on your journey!!!

About it: October 26, 2012 I fell backward on an icy parking lot at work. I was on Workers Comp for 9 months. My PCS : everyday headaches became once in a while headaches, and neck pain became manageable. Still have occasional mild dizziness, sometimes fullness in the ears, convergence insufficiency, sequencing struggles, short term memory struggles, verbal processing delays. CT neg, MRI neg. Therapies: prism glasses, acupuncture, icing neck, resting, supplementing, Elavil 20mg at bedtime. NEW: Completed 12 weeks of physical therapy and returned to work full time. About me: I'm a marketing manager, a mom with a blended family and wife to a heart attack survivor. I believe my brain injury taught me more than it cost me. I'm grateful to still be me! |

Good for you. It is amazing how simple affirmation of your injury and symptoms can be such a huge step forward.
A note to take home to family can help. LOL

. I guess like a lot of us there are days when you think am I imagining these symptoms or you get the feeling that there maybe something else going on beyond the head injury. Although the diagnosis was as simple it could be, the relief was so immense. The biggest boost was the pragmatic response essentially saying we could do lots of investigation but really it would only confirm a head injury had occurred which we know. Just so lucky that the local hospital board had decided to bring in some external consultants to reduce the waiting list and the one that saw me had recently retired and was available
