Ever since my concussion, almost ALL my medicine's do the opposite side effects, but will also do the goal intended. If it says "sedation" for my headaches that means insomnia for me lol. If it says for "Anxiety"I get hyper with no anxiety? My antidepressant say's "fatigue"and I get hyper with no depression?Does anyone else have this problem that takes medication?Or does anyone know WHY this is happening?Any feedback is appreciated.

If you look at the list of side-effects for just about any med, especially psychotropic meds, the symptom being treated is usually listed as a possible side effect.

This is very true and I never really took medicines before so I never noticed it.I sure am noticing it now. The one that really messes with me most is the SNRI that say's it is for menopause. Ummm well I hope that does not happen because my OBGYN blood check said I am far away from that and I would like to keep it that way.

I tried some sleeping pills (like lunesta I think) that kept me up all night!!! Wish they worked as promised. Would love a magic pill that fixes brain injury!

What happened: Legs pulled forward by a parent's hockey stick while resting at the side of the rink at a family skate....sent me straight back. I hit the back of my head (with helmet) on the ice, bounced a few times, unconscious for a few minutes. September 11, 2011. Off work since then…I work part-time at home when I can. It has been hell but slowly feeling better (when I am alone☺). Current symptoms: Vision problems (but 20/20 in each eye alone!) – convergence insufficiency – horizontal and vertical (heterophoria), problems with tracking and saccades, peripheral vision problems, eyes see different colour tints; tinnitus 24/7 both ears; hyperacusis (noise filter gone!), labyrinthian (inner ear) concussion, vestibular dysfunction (dizzy, bedspins, need to look down when walking); partial loss of sense of smell; electric shocks through head when doing too much; headaches; emotional lability; memory blanks; difficulty concentrating. I still can’t go into busy, noisy places. Fatigue. Executive functioning was affected – multi-tasking, planning, motivation. Slight aphasia. Shooting pain up neck and limited mobility at neck. Otherwise lucky! Current treatments: Vestibular therapy, Vision therapy, amantadine (100 mg a day), acupuncture and physiotherapy for neck, slow return to exercise, magnesium, resveratrol, omega 3 fish oils, vitamins D, B and multi. Optimism and perserverance. |

Mia,
I have some of those problems at times too. I just accept that if something is going to happen, its going to happen, and move on. I know that if I accepted the need for a drug, after talking it over with my Neurologist, I will take it, and see what happens. If I get a side effect, and its tolerable - ok; if I get a paradox effect and its tolerable - ok; if either is not tolerable, Im on the phone, and we talk about it; and find a solution. I made it clear up front with my Neurologist - since I did this when I was working in the field, I wish it so now as a patient, its called communication - he likes email communiques, so I like 24 hours turn around times - we have a good rapport. He also knows I will be on the "net' double checking any new drug he talks about - and always researching what I can do about my problems. He says he appreciates it, it keeps him up to date - "saves me some research" - since he does alot of expert witness testimonies, I feel Im a help for him lol. Sending him lots of bibliographies and such. lol

. Current: Changes of more insomnia, new reviews with findings of more Depression, tremors, vertigo, tinnitus, loss of focus, fatigue; SSDI - accepted on Depression, Cognitive Deficits; Seizures ruled out, mTBI changes including cognitive slowing/lapses. Medication update: Topamax 200mg twice daily it seems to minimize daily headaches to a 1-2/10 quality(I still know they are there); and acute headaches erupt without warnings. |

Concussion is right. You need to talk over the side effects you are having with your doctor. It took me along time of trial and error to find the correct medication that worked for me. Keep trying and be really honest with what is going on so the doctor can get your medication right. Be sure to tell him about dropping your anti-depressant by 50mg with no weaning down. I still think you are having some problems from that. It takes more than a week to straighten out that big of a medication jump. Talk to your doctor today. Hope it goes well and they are able to find something that helps you.
