OK I have just realized that I posted on someone's thread that was last written in 2008. Guess I won't probably get a response! But it did give me pause. Some of the posting referred to "once the brain get scrambled that there wasn't much help and that is how it was." He also mentioned that once you have healed awhile that the test they give you are no longer valid.
So I am wondering if other people find this to be true? My son has made great strides after emerging from a vegetative state a year and a half ago. (coma for 48 days, additional 58 days in a vegetative state). He has a long long ways to go. He is suppose to have a test that is will show abilities/deficits so we can understand how to help him better. Do any of you think that his healing for this amount of time will invalidate the information? I am not trying to pull apart this person's post, but I am confused. Also, how do you get the nifty information blip that shows up at the bottom of many people's post? It would make it easier to explain or ask questions if I didn't have to repeat my son's story all the time. I am glad I have found this site. The support and knowledge is amazing. ![]() |

On the left hand side at the top of the page....click on user cp. You will be able to click on 'edit signature' and there you can tell us your story. It took me ages to figure out how to do that. Hope it works for you. Great that your son has made so much progress. My heart goes out to you and your family. The brain is amazing and I have been told that progress is continual throughout our lives. Best wishes for continual improvement.

What happened: Legs pulled forward by a parent's hockey stick while resting at the side of the rink at a family skate....sent me straight back. I hit the back of my head (with helmet) on the ice, bounced a few times, unconscious for a few minutes. September 11, 2011. Off work since then…I work part-time at home when I can. It has been hell but slowly feeling better (when I am alone☺). Current symptoms: Vision problems (but 20/20 in each eye alone!) – convergence insufficiency – horizontal and vertical (heterophoria), problems with tracking and saccades, peripheral vision problems, eyes see different colour tints; tinnitus 24/7 both ears; hyperacusis (noise filter gone!), labyrinthian (inner ear) concussion, vestibular dysfunction (dizzy, bedspins, need to look down when walking); partial loss of sense of smell; electric shocks through head when doing too much; headaches; emotional lability; memory blanks; difficulty concentrating. I still can’t go into busy, noisy places. Fatigue. Executive functioning was affected – multi-tasking, planning, motivation. Slight aphasia. Shooting pain up neck and limited mobility at neck. Otherwise lucky! Current treatments: Vestibular therapy, Vision therapy, amantadine (100 mg a day), acupuncture and physiotherapy for neck, slow return to exercise, magnesium, resveratrol, omega 3 fish oils, vitamins D, B and multi. Optimism and perserverance. |
