I had a concussion in 2000 which took over a year to recover from. Now since my 3 hour malignant melanoma cancer surgery in March of this year my eyes and my balance has drastically changed and I'm giving up on all hope of getting better. I've seen one neurologist with no help but now I'm in contact with one from North Carolina who understands what I'm describing but I can't travel and it's hard for him to try to help me with out seeing me. So I thought mabey someone on here might have some help. This neurologist thinks from the anesthia it gave me a chemical reconcussion. I'll try to describe my symptoms as best possible. I'm sick to my stomach for one, my balance feels off, I'm not spinning but I know something isn't right. My eyes can't keep up where I'm looking and it makes me sicker. It's like it's to much for my eyes and brain to take in I also get headaches if I look at things to much. Like if I'm in a store and going down an aisle and there's clothes on one side and jewelry on the other it's to much for my eyes and brain to take in at one time I could feel things in my head like fuzzy feeling to. I've seen a opthalmologist with no help. I'm currently on a strict diet with some supplements from this neurologist and it does seem to help to a certain degree but my eyes are still not right I still have to lay down alot to help my brain and eyes rest. I've seen a balance doctor with no help with testing. Through all this I have severe depression and haven't been able to take any meds because I'm already feeling like crap with my head and meds have so many side effects. So please if anyone has any suggestions or information on what I could try or a doctor to see please help!

birds,
Welcome to NeuroTalk. Sorry to hear about your struggles. Your neuro makes a good point. Chemo brain / anesthesia brain has many overlaps with concussion symptoms. I am very reactive to anesthesia. It takes me a year or more to start to see an real improvement. My biggest struggle was balance when getting up from a chair. What supplements and diet restrictions did your neuro put you on ?

I can only eat beef, chicken, turkey, some fish and only certain vegetables and fruits. No dairy, soy, sugar, nuts, grains, beans, eggs. Only olive oil to cook with and the meat is supposed to be organic but who can afford that all the time. I do what I can afford. The supplements are Apex Energetics AC-GLUTATHIONE, LIQUA-D, OXICELL-SE, OMEGA CO3, RESVERO ACTIVE, TURMERO ACTIVE. The last thing I just got was called Neuro-Ptx and this is to help my depression but I tried it for 2 days and it made me suicidal so I stopped taking it. I know I didn't give it long enough but I don't won't to get that way again. Any anesthia gets me so sick with vertigo and balance problems. I can't fly on a plane anymore the last time I was sick in bed the whole 2 weeks on vacation taking zofran sickness suppositorries and meclizine wich barely helped. Driving is very hard with my eyes the way they are. Have you ever heard of a neuro opthalomolgist? I wonder if they would no anything?

Neuro-opthamologists are discussed often here. They have been true healers for some.
I have looked into Apex Energetics. I am not impressed. It looks to be a profit maker for the dispensing doctors and those approved to sell the line. Many of the products are just very expensive versions of other quality brands. The broad limitations do not make sense to me. I have been through elimination fasts with reintroduction of foods. This is a successful way of managing/discovering allergens and other foods with negative impacts. Check out the Vitamins sticky at the top. It has a vitamin and supplement regimen I was prescribed by a ortho-molecular specialist MD in 1982. It has served me well and is still supported by a myriad of other clinicians. I have updated and edited the top post at post 46. My best to you.

If you had vertigo and eye problems what has helped the most? Any certain supplements or exercises? I saw your list of supplements what has all those done the most for you? What kind of doctors do you recommend seeing? I'm in Montana. You mentioned paroxitine I think is that for depression or something else? I wish there was something natural to take for my depression. Any thing you've run across? Thanks |

I am taking L-Tryptophan 500 mgs three times each day. The vitamin regimen was prescribed by a doctor when I was suffering serious depression. In 8 weeks, I was like a new person. The B vitamins are the most important but the entire regimen helps the body maintain its best functions.
Every person has different needs but my regimen is designed to cover a wide range of needs. My wife sees a difference in my moods and such when I have not taken my daily regimen. My best to you.
