I CAN'T believe how time and again I find a thread that matches some of my biggest issues. Vivid dreams, painful dreams, and sex dreams. Glad someone had the courage to ask. I didn't
![]() I wake up to vivid dreams every morning and even if they are pleasant I wake up with the WORST anxiety attack you can imagine sometimes accompanied by burning stabbing pain and maybe tremors . Takes me half hour to know that dream wasn't real. As far as sexual dreams you mention, those are the worst for me. instead of waking up the way a man usually would (sorry if this it tmi) I wake up with body on fire and severe head pain. It's got to be the CRUELEST part of this whole thing. And unlike the author of this thread indicated, I'm not obsessed with sex. it happens two or three times a week. I guess guys just dream of sex some of the time and sometimes I wake up during them. One doctor said thalamus and brain stem misfiring or nerves healed and connected wrong. Whatever that means. I want to wake up and feel no pain, no anxiety and remember NOTHING!!! like before the injuries. Its not the medication, it's not lyme disease ![]() |

As it's an uncomfortable subject perhaps doctors don't talk about it much with patients, but post-TBI sexual disinhibition is not uncommon.
There are good discussions of this issue in both neuropsychologist Dr. Glen Johnson's book, Traumatic Brain Injury Survival Guide and in the sometimes off colour, TBI HELL: A Traumatic Brain Injury Really Sucks by George Gosling. If your hyper sexuality is confined to dreams, I guess that's fortunate. In fact, dreams, even really bad ones, are a good sign for TBI patients. Those with really significant injuries sometimes lose that capacity. |

I attribute these to medications I may be taking.
If I skip doses (ssri, magtein), I also have vivid dreams that are disturbing. |
