Default Overdoing it - dangerously

After doing something really dangerous last week, I have decided to listen to the wisdom on this board and become more proactive . Or maybe not if my track record holds. ( I have read the thread on vitamins a couple of times, but just lack motivation. )
Anyway, first of all, thank you all for the help and support available on this forum. I am 3 months in and found this forum about 3 weeks in. ( Fell backwards onto an icy sidewalk in March, cevical sprain and concussion) Thanks to all of you, I do not feel crazy. My doctor for work comp. knows nothing about PCS. I just keep telling him that I am dizzy and he keeps me off work. My neurologist did some tests and said I should continue to rest until my six month mark and if not better he might refer me to a neuropsychologist.
Back to the dangerous part. I had been feeling really good for a week or so. My sons suggested a short hike into a wooded area. We got lost and spent 3 hours trying to find our way out over very rugged terrain. When rescued, the paramedic wanted to admit me to the hospital with a BP of 160/90 and heart rate of 145. I pleaded PCS and was eventually allowed to be driven home.
Do not do this! I have been out of whack ever since. I believe it is what you all call a setback. And I feel like a cottonheaded ninnymuggins for doing it. It has made me more aware of fluctuations in heart rate and blood pressure that seem to correlate with my symptoms though.

Sadly, impulsiveness and lack of judgement are, themselves, symptoms of TBI. They can make us our own worst enemies during recovery.

Consider printing out your post, keeping it in your pocket and reading it every time you have the urge to push the envelope.

Default overdoing it

Oh boy, I've overdone things too. And we don't know what we can't do sometimes, until we do it, and then sadly, yes, we set ourselves back.

As for your dizziness, if you still have that, see if you can get a referral for vestibular therapy -- maybe?? I recall the dizzy days I had early on..... and it was awful. Vestibular therapy helped me.

Anyhow, take the rest you need, and this too shall pass.

Take care

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013.

Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines,

Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something.

Therapy I had: vestibular

3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling.

9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms.
I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery.

Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired.

Glad you and your son are okay!!

Yes, don't over do things, some days it feels like we can do a lot but we pay for it later on.

Keep an eye on that cervical strain, I had one over a year ago and still having problems which my Dr ignored for months, pain got much worse after about 4 months, now it's down my left arm, not to scare you but keep an eye on it and get straight to the Dr if you feel it suddenly starts feeling worse, don't want anyone to go through what I did.

I was also dizzy, went to vestibular therapy which helped.

3 months is not long at all, be careful and take extra good care of yourself.

Take care...
