As Mark says, a negative or unremarkable MRI doesn't mean you don't have an injury, my Dr. said it will rule out the very serious conditions.

Then there are others tests, EEG ?? think it's called that.

My Dr. also said quite often nothing shows up on any test for people who are definitely having seizures, I don't want anything very serious to show up but I want to know what is happening as I'm sure you want to know too, it's so frustrating, you know something is wrong.

Is your MRI being done with contrast?

It is worrying, hope you get answers..

Yes, I understand this. I had an appt with my neuro to go over my MRI, eeg and bloodwork results and he didn't even see me. The nurse saw me, told me the results and left. Took about 5 minutes and I had to pay a $60 copay for seeing a "specialist".

This is true. My neuro told me this before the tests were done. He said he was mainly making sure there were no slow bleeds happening but he was expecting things to appear "normal".

This was my thinking. I didn't want anything to be seriously wrong but I wanted a reason for why I'm struggling. I think I wanted it more for other people that just don't seem to understand WHY this recovery is taking forever.

My Neuropsychologist just explained to me and my husband that it is considered a standard confirmation of concussion or mild TBI when both CT scans and MRI show nothing. I guess it is because these types of imaging studies can't show the microscopic axonal damage that is prevalent in concussive injuries. And most neurologists are very skeptical to injury if it doesn't show up on imaging, so they are more prone to downplaying the results.

Neuropsych testing was the first way I got standardized, acceptable "proof" of the extent of my head injury. It was well worth it to have this done, because I had just been told by my Neurologist I didn't have a severe head injury because I was not comatose and the MRI was clear. Neuropsych testing proved otherwise, and finally I felt validation for the continuing problems I was having, even though the Neurologist kept reassuring me I was fine, and that I "BEHAVING as if I had a severe head injury".

I hope you find the answers you need from the MRI if it it something like bleeding in your brain. But please don't get too upset if it comes back negative.

Take care, M-i-m

Your Dr says it's been 6 months so you should be feeling better by now!! who says!!!?? Not everyone is okay after 6 months, obviously something is going on and people can have problems from a concussion for a long, long time.

Think a lot of Dr's say that cos they don't know what to do

My old Dr kept telling me I was fine and it takes a few months to feel better, she was still saying that at a year out.

Can you get another Dr? you don't need to be hearing that rot.

Default I agree with music...

mri of the brain are also about 4x that of other body parts so if your ins only covers some of it beware.

Neuropsych exams are better for mtbi. In either case good luck. Most neurologist look down on neuropsych becasue they are not medically trained as in MD vs phd.

So I got my appt date and its Tuesday morning.

I was told on the phone im either going into a 1.5 telsa mri or a 3.0 telsa mri. Not sure which, and she didnt know either. Are either of these good for diagnosing issues with a concussion, or are they to weak?

The 3.0 Tesla is better. It still will not likely show any abnormalities.

WC may try to say there is nothing wrong but your Doc should be more understanding. Have you had your wife video record your episodes ? Use a cell phone and record them.
