Has anybody else experienced this? I had terrible eye pain after my concussion. It was debilitating at times. Nothing helped (well, nothing doctors gave me).
I forget what made me want to cut out sugar completely. I think a doctor made a general statement about how eliminating foods that cause inflammation might help. Anyway, my eye pain was 80% better after 3 days without sugar. After a week with no sugar, my eye pain was 95% better. I figured that maybe it was just a coincidence and ate some sugar again. My symptoms returned almost immediately. I stopped eating sugar again and then tried once more to add it back in. This was after another week or so. The eye pain returned within 20 minutes, and my heart started racing. I also got a bad headache. Has anybody else given up refined sugar and noticed an improvement? This has been really hard for me since I don't eat gluten either (I am allergic to wheat). It seems like lots of gluten-free foods are packed with sugar. I am still consuming honey and maple syrup a couple times a week with no issues.

I drastically reduced refined sugar and wheat products, which in turn has a positive effect on my health. That was about a year ago and now I am 2 waist sizes smaller and over 20 pounds lighter. The original goal was to loose weight, but there were other benefits. I 'feel' healthier, and my brain does work a 'little better', like a reduction in brain fog, and my memory issues are not so bad. But, most of all, I feel like I have a new body, or more accurately, my old body is back.
For anyone thinking about the wheat thing, be prepared to add a vitamin D supplement to replace what you are giving up. I'll add that gluten free is not synonymous with wheat free. Jamie

It is interesting that you can tolerate maple sugar and honey. Both have strong similarities in sugar value to refined sugar. Have you tried raw sugar or turbinado sugar ?

I'm diabetic - became diabetic after one of my surgeries - so I haven't had sugar for 5 years. Makes a huge difference in my blood sugar levels.
Also, I can't tolerate gluten free food- very often the gluten is replaced with soy - and I can't deal with soy. |
