While trying to find out why I wake so damned early, typically 5am, I stumbled across this site which is more informative than many others.
http://sleepdisorders.about.com/od/h...Awakenings.htm I think I may be suffering from Advanced Sleep Phase Syndrome! So will try the tips given here: http://www.sleephealthfoundation.org...rder-aspd.html Maybe of use to others with MTBI 'sleep distubance'. |

How interesting.
Thanks for those links. I used to be a night owl, but then everything changed and as it mentioned in that first article, the "onset and offset of sleep moves earlier by several hours". I'm waking earlier and earlier. By the time summer arrives, I'll probably be waking at 2 or 3am by the feel of it. ![]() I used to try to get out in the sunlight just after waking up, but then I stopped and this sleep cycle change happened. I might try making a better routine and see if I can move it all forward again. I just thought it was old age. thanks again. btw, Some people on the forums use light visors for this reason and there are posts about them if you ever want to search them. |

I have started this new thing where I wake up at 4am and spring out of bed... not fun!

The Start: MVA, t-boned, on 1-12-14 (my sons 5th birthday) and did not think anything of it.. my back hurt on site but everything else seemed ok. Lost about 10-12 hours from about 3 hours after the accident to the next day...Experienced terrible brain fog for over a month, plus intense headaches, nausea, dizziness, cognitive difficulties, disorientation, no short term memory, depression and just an overall hangover feeling daily. Current Situation: I'm about 7 months in and my local neurologist has waived her white flag and therefore I am headed to Dallas to be seen (I have family there). The headaches are still daily. I have nausea, dizziness as well. Drugs I have been on- Vicodin (off), Naproxen (off), proanolol (off), topamax (off), cataflam (off), Midrin (off), Flexeril (off) and now Namenda XR (off), Nortrptylin (off), Verapamil (off) Therapy- Osteopath, Vestibular and balance therapy, fuzion/soft tissue massage, acupuncture Drs- ER (no help), GP, Chiropractor, Neurologist and Osteopath |

To wake up when my family does, I have to go to bed around 3am. If I go to bed when they do, I'd be up, for good, at 2am.
For me, it's a combination of my TBI messing up my REM sleep, and having to be beyond exhausted to get past my back pain. It's miserable. Frankly, I can't understand why I haven't died or gone insane. Of course, I would probably be unaware, if the latter has occurred. ![]() Thanks for the links. I'm going to give them a read. |

thanks for this! the little reading i've done during this fun phase of life has been between 3-5am, then i take a mg or 2 of ambien and sleep til 8. today i refrained from the ambien b/c i woke up at 5:30. hopefully that means better things for tonight.
i did this program (website is a disaster for the concussed). it helped but then i got lazy and slipped back into my old laying in bed ways...but it was helpful teaching me better habits http://cbtforinsomnia.com/

Those remaining are fatigue, brain freezes/overstimulation, headaches, sensitivity to light and sound. Insomnia is getting better but still an issue, and appetite is ba-ack! Depression and anxiety are largely under control thanks to Lexapro, exercise, and a very distant light at the end of the tunnel. Drugs: Lexapro, occasional 2-5mgs ambien. Off amatryptaline. Taking about 453 supplements. Just started vision therapy, waiting on some blue-tinted prism glasses. "You will encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. Does anyone have experience with Remeron for sleep? I take 7.5mgs at night and thankfully have been sleeping okay. I'm very tired all the time and can't differentiate if its PCS or med side effects. If I try to nap during the day its like my mind senses I'm drifting off into a dream state and wakes me up.
I'm scared this is an indication I might need to stay on the meds a while longer. Just looking for any advice. Thanks!
