Unless you're an extremely tall person, wouldn't it be standard practice in a restaurant to have ceilings and doors at a height that wouldn't cause injury to the workers?

Yeah. I should wear some sort of sponge hat at all times.
The restaurant is in a basement in NYC. Not tall person friendly. |

My advice would be try not to obsess over the bumps, just make a point to avoid them at all costs. As long as you are making a point to avoid them, you have done all you can other than quit this job at a restaurant which sounds like it has absurdely low ceilings.
If you experience a concussion and develop post concussion symptoms, you will be the first one to know. Worrying over non-existent symptoms is pointless except I suppose it can lead to being more careful about hitting your head. Don't stress yourself out too much. Anxiety can be a nasty trigger for other mental conditions. Best regards, Danny |

I suggest something hard. A soft hat will not work as well. A construction hard hat might be good. A skateboard helmet can be purchased for under $20. You do not want anything with a brim or visor in front. It blocks the view of the overhead obstacles.
Even a helmet will not fully protect you but it is a start.
