Default Sleep starts

I hit my head 15 months ago. One symptom I am very much confused about is random twitching in my body muscles. I would almost always have those sleep starts whenever I go to sleep and they would become much stronger if I am tired. What causes them ? They appeared out the blue after about 10 months after the hit and hasn't gone away. Do we have anybody here for whom itfaded away gradually ? How to manage them ? I read magnesium pills help?

Galaxy,

I am at 14.5 months now and my sleep twitches started about 7 months.

Sleep continues to be a real issue for me...last night I slept through the night while Friday night I was asleep around 9:30 and woke at 10 for the night. I believe much of it is anxiety related although like Friday I thought I had it under control and anticipated a decent sleep. I will have to say that I had a couple of employees call in sick which left me needing to be in three places at once with 40 miles in between.

It seems to me that when I am asleep I am not able to consciously control the anxious thoughts and they start to run wild while asleep and is usually why I wake.

I was talking with a competitor of mine the other day who had a cropduster wreck a dozen or so years ago that resulted in a bad head injury, it was my first chance to talk about it as a fellow head injury victim. He saw some of the worst of Viet Nam ground battles and was wounded there....told me the recovery from the head was the worst thing he has ever faced and never wanted to see it again.

This isn't for the faint of heart is it!

I am sorry you are having to go through this. I have observed that when I am very tired and sleepy I have worse hypnic jerks on that day. The more my body wants rest the stronger the jerks are. I also think it stress and anxiety is a factor in this. Have you consulted a doctor for this yet ? If yes what's their opinion ?

Galaxy,

I have pretty much given up on docs. They don't seem to have answers other than try this pill and see what happens.

I'm at 16 months and have had periods of twitching as I drop off to sleep, they seem to have gone now. I occasionally used to 'jump' before my injury but not repeatedly or as strongly.

Sleep is still pretty bad for me (I sound like a stuck record), I'll get a couple of rare days where I'll wake at 7:30 but usually it's stupid o'clock in the morning and wide awake. Can't get my head around the sleep issue as I feel pretty relaxed these days, maybe there's a deeper relaxation needed.
