Normally I am very healthy physically and barely get a cold, however
I've noticed over the last few weeks I've been experiencing cold/flu-like symptoms and fatigue - these seem much worse after exercise. I've also noticed waking up and feeling these symptoms around 2-3am in the morning, sometimes with night sweats, but when waking on normal time, they are much less severe. I've had pretty much every blood test under the sun recently to rule out the most common and 'scariest' suspects. I'm currently taking Echinacea, Ferroglobin and Vit C to combat symptoms but its very slow progress compared to my normal immune function. While I'm totally open to the fact that this may some persistent Autumnal lurgy.... Has anyone else experienced similar or problems with their immune system after head injury/during PCS?? |

Being in a stressed state or one of chronic fatigue is known to lower the activity of your immune system. This would translate to increased risk of disease, particularly infectious agents such as cold and influenza viruses. My first assumption would be you have a mild viral infection.
Unfortunately stress and fatigue are experienced by pretty much anyone with PCS. |

Yeah, definitely been in a stressed state...
incidentally I've also gone ahead and had a full thyroid and pituitary blood profile done recently, still awaiting pituitary results while the thyroid returned everthing within range apart from one of the anti-bodies was very high (Anti-Thyroidperoxidase) which indicates I may be at risk from Hashimotos or Graves, where it appears the immune system mistakes the thyroid for being a foreign threat and attacks it. There is no way of telling how long these levels have been raised, it could be since the head trauma of a long-standing issue preceeding this. Either way, the overall diagnostic assessment was that my thyroid function was normal but to seek medical advice if I felt I had autoimmune system symptoms. I am unsure of the exact mechanism of how this would present and whether it would result in anything like what I am experiencing I'm trying to not overthink this now and don't want to start diagnosing myself with the above illnesses based on my symptoms and Google, but I will definitely be heading to my GP once I have the full suite of results. |
